Russia is executing soldiers who try to retreat from a bloody offensive in eastern Ukraine, the White House has said.
According to the US, some of the casualties suffered by Russia near Avdiivka were "on the orders of their own leaders".

"Russia's mobilised forces remain under-trained, under-equipped and unprepared for combat, as was the case during their failed winter offensive last year," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in a briefing on Thursday.

He said that the Russian military "appears to be using what we would call 'human wave' tactics, just throwing masses of these poorly trained soldiers right into the fight."

"No proper equipment, no leadership, no resourcing, no support. It is unsurprising that Russian forces are suffering from poor morale," Mr Kirby added.

The executions will continue until morale improves.

Given that the White House has considerable reason to want to make Russia look as bad as possible, I want a little more proof that this is going on than "the White House says" it is.

It wouldn't amaze me if Russia is doing that, but I'd still like greater evidence for it.

How about Russian soldiers stating it? Granted, this article is from back in March -- though you can find lots online where Russian soldiers have repeatedly claimed this on social media. So this is not a new "tactic" by Russia, just a continuation of a policy they've been using for most of the war.

There are videos that show russian soldiers running towards their supposed comrades and then being gunned down by them. I will obviously not post them on here, but they can be found easily.

Poor morale is happening on both sides ... the longer a war goes on ... morale goes down.

The BBC claim is false (A Lie), no place in the article does it mention Russian executions or any US representative stating such (A Lie) and a poor one at that, complete propaganda by the BBC, the complete article is below

Russia is executing soldiers who try to retreat from a bloody offensive in eastern Ukraine, the White House has said.
Oct 26, 2023

According to the US, some of the casualties suffered by Russia near Avdiivka were "on the orders of their own leaders".

Russian and Ukrainian troops have been locked into a fierce battle for the frontline town since mid-October.

Russia is thought to have suffered "significant" losses in this time.

Ukrainian estimates put the number of Russian casualties in Avdiivka at 5,000, while the US says that Russia lost "at least" 125 armoured vehicles and more than a battalion's worth of equipment.

A Ukrainian army spokesperson said that Russian troops were refusing to attack Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka because of heavy losses and that there had been mutinies in some units.

Taking Avdiivka - which lies near the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk - would allow Russian troops to push the front line back, making it harder for the Ukrainian forces to make further advances into Donetsk region.

Avdiivka has been all but abandoned by its 30,000 residents as Russian forces continue to pummel it. Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the situation as "particularly tough".

On Thursday, the US announced a new $150m (£123.7m) military assistance package for Ukraine that includes artillery and small-arms ammunition, as well as anti-tank weapons.

However, future aid to Ukraine is in doubt following the election of Republican Mike Johnson as speaker of the US House of Representatives earlier this week.

Mr Johnson - who is on the right wing of the Republican Party - is against further US aid to Ukraine and has previously supported amendments to block it.

The US is the largest military donor to Ukraine, having spent more than $46bn (£37bn) so far, plus tens of billions more in financial and humanitarian aid.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Is there a reason we should believe you over the BBC? As for the article not printing a US official making the claim, how about a Reuters article that has that quote? What is more, the Russians don't even deny it, though specifically asked about it; instead talking about how horrible the US is for funding Ukraine.

Of course, while this doesn't directly support the above claim, this is an article that directly addresses the issues Russian soldiers face in Ukraine -- directly from Russian soldiers themselves. You can listen to the soldiers talk about the horrid conditions and how they are treated as less than human, directly from their own mouths.

I was waiting for you to come up and see what bull you'd come up this time to defend Putin. You could at least attempt to make your pro-Putin propaganda trolling a bit less obvious.

It's not implausible. Blocking troops have been deployed by the Russians since at least the Soviet era:

Barrier troops - Wikipedia

This article quote a video posted by actual Russian troops to their social media.

Russian soldiers say commanders used ‘barrier troops’ to stop them retreating

This one from a few days ago references statements from captured Russian soldiers:

‘They’re Just Choosing Where To Die.’ When Russia’s Poorly-Trained Stormtroopers Retreat, Russian Barrier Troops Gun Them Down.

This one seem to show Russian been shot by their own comrades:

Footage appears to show Putin's forces being shot as they try to flee

More are available, but there is a lot of duplication in the search results, but from different outlets.

So, should we disregard the article because its western MSM propaganda or should we take it at face value because it says what you want it to say, which it doesn't?

I'm already having trouble with doublethink, but this kind of posting behaviour seems to require the rare and elusive tripplethink.

Reading is fundamental.

If it is propaganda, then present something which disproves the article. Otherwise, going after the article telling us that it doesn't say what it says is not helping you change minds.

White House says Russia is executing its own soldiers for not following orders

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Thursday said Russia is executing soldiers who have failed to follow orders and threatening entire units with death if they retreat from Ukrainian artillery fire.

As stated the OP article provided in this thread doesn't cover its claims of (Executions), nor does it give names of offices or any US official in their claim (Accoording to the US)

Once Again BBC MSM propaganda IMHO

A completely different article that the opinion, nor was your presented article cited in the OP article in any way shape or form, you have proven nothing

And US Sec Kirby is spreading propaganda, Russia isn't executing anybody, pure unproven propaganda, just as it's been for the past 2 years

That is your problem.
