  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was chatting with a protestant on YouTube and the reason he didn't want to become a catholic is because there was a lack of love in the catholic church. He went to a mass and he was turned off, because of the lack of love within the church congregation. Would you agree or disagree?

It was Jesus who saved Saul, not the church. Jesus alone saves souls. But as a church, we should be reaching out to people.
The point I was making is Jesus and His Church are one. Jesus does save us. He saves us through the Sacraments of the Church.

If salvation is readily available to those outside His Church, then why did Christ bother setting up the Church?

I totally agree with you. If anyone can be saved outside the catholic church as long as they believe in Jesus, then what is the point of being catholic?

Disagree. Maybe in some parishes that is the case, but the ones I was a member of had lots of love. It is similar to any church really, some pastors/priests will foster an environment that might feel more "loving", and some will not. But that does not make the Mass any more or less valid, or the church as a whole more or less "loving". It is not fair of him to judge the whole RCC based on one parish he attended. Many churches even have more than one priest, so different Masses will have a different feel.

I hear you, Camper, and obviously, in Heaven, there is no heresy, schism, error, or pride. None at all. Which means those who make it up there, make it through Christ, and as members of His Church. How God's Divine Mercy irons this out, either at the moment of death, through Purgatory, or both, I don't know.

But I do know that if we can weep and hope for righteous / just pagans, we can and should hope that God's grace saves and reconciles to His Church those Christians who did what they could with what they had and grasped to carry their cross, and follow Christ.

Doesn't the Fatima Prayer and Divine Mercy Chaplet, to some extent, point to this?
Praying for salvation for those outside His Church is an act of charity that we all should do. My point is that we cannot assume on anything outside of what Christ has revealed.

Yes same here. The catholic church that I am part of currently has shown me love as well.
