  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I will be honest. I don't consider protestants to be saved, but I still love them. Unless they (protestants) are living in invincible ignorance, then I don't consider them to be saved. But I still love them as my neighbors.
I'd be careful with this, man. It swings close to what some Protestants say about Catholics. And it stings when they say it about us, you know?

I figure, if they confess Christ, confess the Apostles' Creed, revere and study and do their best to obey Holy Scripture, have faith, hope, and charity, love their neighbors, and love their enemies, we shouldn't call them non-Christians, or presume that through their faith and works, God's grace is not saving them. Are they missing out on a bunch of stuff? Yeah. Are they dead wrong on other stuff? Yes. But, still.

They're certainly not on the same level as Hindus or Buddhists or something. They're still Christians.

I have yet to meet a protestant who falls into the category of invincible ignorance. Every protestant whom I have spoken with at least seems to have a general knowledge of the catholic church.
They do. And we should pray for the incredible and extraordinary lies they've been taught to melt away, so they can see the Truth for what it is. They've also been taught 500 years of propaganda.

I have heard some protestants on YouTube call catholics a cult group. I will be honest with you. It doesn't sting or hurt me at all. It actually gives me an opportunity to show them that we can love each other even if we have differences of opinions.

Also to be invincibly ignorant you have to lack the ability to find the truth

So they would have to be unable to read, or have no access to a library or the internet or be so psychologically malformed that they lacked culpability

The term invincible ignorance is so over used it is meaningless

This is the reason we need to pray for them because the Catechism says there is no salvation outside the catholic church.

God knows your heart. The only definition of that term that matters is His.

Yes at the end of the day, Jesus will be the judge. But we have to uphold the Catechism as well. You are entitled to disagree with the Catechism, but it is a catholic doctrine that exists for a reason.

Jesus gave us the Church as THE means to save souls. How one is saved without the Church baffles me. But i am sure God can certainly make exceptions, but we cannot assume those exceptions are common otherwise the Church would not be necessary.

We do not save souls, Jesus saves souls. Jesus gave us the church to worship and fellowship. Church in Greek means a gathering of believers. But yes, as a church we should be reaching out to people.

It was Jesus who saved Saul, not the church. Jesus alone saves souls. But as a church, we should be reaching out to people.
