  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So #1: this isn't racist, it is classless, bigoted and prejudiced. There is no power wielded.

I don't understand what you mean by "there is no power wielded".

And again, it's not bigoted and prejudiced. It was a very stupid song someone made up using the tune to another song. Interestingly enough, the song on its own could somewhat discriminating, since it talks about a guy's reputation based on his size and attitude. And even more interestingly enough, it's based on a guy who gets the beans beat out of him for hitting on someone's wife.

#2: Cops are supposed to be of a higher standard than us lowly civilians. That is the reason for the justification of all these non-indictment: the law is skewed in favor of the cops. With power comes responsibility, and if you are a law enforcement agent, and this type of stuff entertains you, I wouldn't want you policing my neighborhood.

No one said the police were entertained. After all, someone recorded the event BECAUSE they were offended.

Mature people don't fight fire with fire. And, apologies after the fact are trivial. The energy (sound waves) exist forever.

"Apologies after the fact are trivial" - apologies by their very nature are after the fact.

I refuse to excuse stuff like the song when my government, and certain people, are trying to convince me cops are, and never were the problem. If they do this in the open, then I can only imagine what they do behind closed doors, and what type of attitude they bring with them on the job.

And, it is absolutely classless. I think I said that.

Who is "they"? The song was written by one person and performed by that same person.

I don't understand what you mean by "there is no power wielded".

Real racism isn't just being mean, or name calling, or hurt feelings. There are words for those things. Racism is the ability to substantiate your prejudice or ignorance with a measure that can subjugate a party. This song doesn't subjugate anyone except people with hurt feelings.

It is categorically bigoted and prejudiced. And ignorant. Reread the lyrics.

No one said the police were entertained. After all, someone recorded the event BECAUSE they were offended.

If ANY of the officers were entertained that is a problem. Why do they deserve a badge, gun, tazer, baton, cuffs, and armor/vests if these people paid by tax dollars are entertaining racially insensitive claptrap. As I said, what do they take to work - when they see someone like me walks down the street. Me, my friends and my children will have to worry about getting shot or kicked in the face because a cop is hyped up on racial rhetoric and prejudice, and it just so happens I was in the area. And, the cop will never be indicted because s/he can just argue s/he was scared for their life. Absolutely not, since they are "authorities," they need to be held to a higher standard, especially since the law is already in their favor.

If no one spoke up immediately, that is just as bad. These people are supposed to protect and serve, and uphold the law.

"Apologies after the fact are trivial" - apologies by their very nature are after the fact.

The denotation of apology is akin to an explanation, which can be before or after the event. And, apologies don't change the way the source feels, so it is trivial. It is especially trivial because the audience of objection has to take it on the chin (like HIS PARENTS.) There will be no accountability, and as usual they will insinuate an "I'm sorry" is good enough, and the objects have no right to be mad for ridiculing a dead dude who was shot by cops - with cops in attendance.

Who is "they"? The song was written by one person and performed by that same person.

Any and all cops in attendance, especially the ones who did not speak up.

Cops behave this way, cops get hurt, or killed due to this kind of callousness, then people blame the public for hating cops.

SMH....

Exactly my point (if you aren't being sarcastic.) Much more succinct than I put it perhaps.

I put that up to highlight why people feel the way they do about cops. The "cop bashing" being regurgitated in the media didn't just happen. Many cops act like this all the time, and then take it out on their objects (black, white, asian, latino, women, men, etc.)

Let's not forget about the cop that forced an Arizona man to go through surgery - after cavity searching him multiple times - because he was "convinced" the guy had drugs. After an enema and surgical scoping, they didn't find anythibg.

And, they sent the guy the bill.

And, the cop was acting outside of his jurisdiction, and the doctor he asked first to do the procedure - in his jurisdiction - refused. So, he went down the street - out of his jurisdiction.

That isn't even racial stuff, that is dehumanizing, and I believe the "perp" was white.

So, this way people feel with cops is nothing new. And, I laugh at the audacity of the NYPD to claim the victim. I went to school on the outskirts of Harlem (Columbia.) There were cops on every odd street from 100th all the way into Washington Heights. And, they had their lights off: borderline entrapment, and definitely profiling.

My friend was entrapped by a cop out of uniform, and has a possession charge on his record (he was a hunter, and carried a blade.) He was white. So, the NYPD want to make this a racial thing; no, most people do not like the NYPD because they are known to be extremely corrupt over all social spectra.

The NYPD's corruption is only matched by the LAPD.

I did not move a goal post. If that white man had the same health issues that Garner did, he could also be dead. It was the health issues, not the color of anyone's skin.

Moving the goal post is when you set a criteria, then change it by adding additional criteria.

Your criteria is in blue.

"First of all, there’s no racism in this case. If this man were a white man resisting arrest at that same size, the same thing would happen.

Now let compare it to this.

If that white man had the same health issues that Garner did, he could also be dead. It was the health issues, not the color of anyone's skin.

It's time to realize, a good number of cops are not out to protect us, and that blue line protects them.

The one where the cop was wailing on a WOMAN, I definitely remember that. But, Don Lemon, Anderson Cooper, O'Reilly or Megan Kelly did not devote a week of sensationalism for either of these incidents.

The guy in the above video looked like a zombie... a shame you can't get these stories attention on MSM. Instead, we have cops crying crocodile tears, and slinging phlegm over two men slain that, quite frankly, probably weren't even liked by their own "blue brothers." And, they have the audacity to blame the mayor and protester lol...

They don't even talk about how his man that allegedly shot the two cops drove hundreds of miles to allegedly do the deed - after nearly killing his own mate. Clearly, he has psychological issues, but he isn't afforded that luxury of being given called mentally unstable.

For those that think it's not about race.

(CNN) -- If you're white, you may be able to shoplift, drive drunk, even shove a police officer -- and not suffer the same consequences a black person might, according to trending stories being shared on social media.

Meanwhile, many people identifying themselves as white posted tweets confessing to crimes they said they committed without getting punished. Each specific account could not be verified independently and immediately. Taken as a whole, however, they paint a portrait that suggests a racial double standard by American law enforcement.
"I shoplifted when I was 14 and they let me go because my parents came down and we 'looked like a nice family,'" wrote Joel Watson, a cartoonist.

I agree, you can tell that he wasn't wrapped to tight. They also failed to show the multitude of blacks that condemn the act, and had a candlelight meeting for the slain cops,

Also, in that video, he had plenty of chances to cuff her, but didn't. That other cop could have done that but he didn't he shoved her face in the dirt.

The Elks Lodge have apologized for this, the entertainer thought his crowd would get a kick out of it. Is it only racist because the song is about a black man? The lyrics are not racist, just stupid, in my opinion.

While you're pointing out racist "parody" songs...I sure hope you don't miss all the cop killer songs that have been produced over the years.

True, there have been some songs made like that. But are you all for cops celebrating when a cop kills a citizen? There is a difference of what is expected from police officers, and from music artists.

Unable to quote NHE. No one is connecting the Florida incident with the police protests or the NYC murders. Derail Fail!

Cow, local tax dollars finances the local infrastructure of a city, such as the police departments and public schools. Public school teachers are unionized as our local city police forces.

Can you provide some insight into the minds of the prevailing white conservatives as to why they do not sympathize (moral support, not empathy) with public school teachers but sympathize with publicly funded cops almost to the point of idolatry? Reminds me of Chuck Hagel's comment which even secular, liberal Obama thought was cool and wise: "The U.S. military is the single greatest source of good in this world."

If that is true of the U.S. military than that's a pretty damning statement on both Christianity (per its objectives and achievements) and the mission, sacrifice, and capabilities of Jesus Christ.

However, I tend to think some of this over glamorization of the warrior culture, need for violence, and the firearm and those commandos and officers publicly funded and charged to maintain order... is used by the status quo to diminish the internal freedom in each individuals heart and mind.

Though... I will admit... I often feel the medical, pharmaceutical, biotech, engineering fields and applied sciences in general, when employed to reduce pain, misery, and physical limitations in this world trumps the rituals of religion and the clergy themselves (except, if sin and absolution are real things, then the clergy and religion are needed for our *eternal* souls).

I admire the cult of the warrior. There are virtues to be learned through its gauntlet. Ergo, my admiration for the French Foreign Legion and the gladiatorial arenas of the boxer and mixed martial artist. But even these people do not measure up to medical school student steeling his or her mind with the daunting study of the sciences. These medical doctors, surgeons, and medical engineers that heal people or even give those with no arms robotic arms.

Even the philosopher has his or her virtue relative the warrior. Although, the philosopher warrior (a rare breed) combines the best of both.

Anyways... I acknowledge cops help protect larger society as a whole by being a constant opponent, the great antagonist of the career criminal. But in terms of each individuals every day, save they're in the Witness Protection Program, the individual is 9 times out of 10 responsible for their own safety. Cops usually arrive after the fact. And in general I regard cops as people no better or less than public school teachers. And I don't look down on public school teachers. The public legal system is as much a bureaucracy as the public educational system. Not that public institutions are bad. I benefit from the publicly funded V.A. Health Care system and it is wonderful (it has a few problems but so do all large bureaucracies). Americans have no idea what they're missing out on. Public health care is like public protection via publicly funded cops and a publicly funded jail and court system.

I'm hazarding a guess you're not a far right wing person, so, I'm asking for your insights into the minds of the prevail white conservatives in their love affair with police unions and the organized labor of the government employed police officers?

Has any public school teacher ever been murdered while on the job?

2015 is going to be epic.

I always thought it would be a planned civil war, or even a revolution that would be used to destabilize America, collapse the economy, and "force" the International Overseers (CFR, IMF, UN, World Bank, etc.) to come in and make order out of chaos.

Now I see fruit of desperation has begun to ripen, and all the instigating oligarchs can do is go back to America's basis of conflict: racism and race wars. It is funny when I think about it; as I was expecting quite the light show was planned to destabilize the States, and destroy their economy, but is it (and probably always was) the plan to just go for what is easiest...

Race wars always make for good distraction in the States, since one chunk deny it even exists, and another chunk claims to know it exists because they see or experience it daily - with the middle struggling to figure out in which they belong. It never fails.

Things have come to a pretty pass,
Our romance is growing flat,
For you like this and the other
While I go for this and that.
Goodness knows what the end will be;
Oh, I don't know where I'm at...
It looks as if we two will never be one,
Something must be done

You say either, I say either
You say neither, I say neither
either, either
neither, neither
Let's call the whole thing off

You like potatoes, I like potatoes
You like tomatoes, I like tomatoes
Potatoes, potatoes
tomatoes, tomatoes
Let's call the whole thing off

And if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
And if we ever part
that might break my heart

You wear pajamas, I wear pajamas
I wear pajamas and give up pajamas
And for we know we need each other so
We better call the calling off off
Better call the whole thing off

And if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
And if we ever part
that might break my heart

If you like oysters, I like oysters
I order oyster and cancel the oyster
And for we know we need each other so
We better call the calling off off
Better call the whole thing off

Sometimes art transcends time and space, giving life to the otherwise flat perspective of senses...

World war is inevitable now that most "superpowered" nations are firmly planted in they're unique distractions, and spread thin. 2015/2016.... my my...

I don't think the World Bank or any NGO has much of anything to do with any of this stuff going on in the USA over pro-police vs anti-police etc.

Nor do I foresee any real change coming. Nor am I emotionally crippled by whoever the "winner" is in any of this.

Back when all this all first began in Fergunson, in it's very beginnings, my basic proposition was that white Americans and Black-Americans are a marriage made in heaven. They belong together.

It's a racial issue. Deep seated racial issues. Just like when "non-racist" white Americans intoxicated, have felt comfortable enough to tell me I'm not like the [n word] they and I were both friends with. The black people had no idea because those white people would come back around them smiling in their faces. Part of the benefit of being mulatto, part white, and "cosmopolitan" as I was.

And related to this Fergunson stuff all you have to do is less to past gangster rap and current rap music and then observe who the young Black-American women love. Albeit, I've been a fan of a lot of past gansta rap too I must admit. :D

Neither white Americans or Black-Americans can look honestly at themselves in the mirror nor at their national culture.

So, I've been vindicated as this thing has grown and spread. Particularly when that young black male pulled a gun on a cop recently and was shot and killed by the cop. Then others were asking why the cops did not use a taser etc. A small riot of sorts started over that too.

I'm pleased all this has made international news. Though, even I did not expect the unrest to spread so far around the country. But that just illustrated better how deep the cultural divide goes.

You see... an older black male, not bothering anyone, seeking to buy crack cocaine, was nearly beaten to death by some young black males (black on black violence = black lives don't matter) in Milwaukee some years ago. The same kind of black males out here pulling guns on cops, jacking up store clerks, and chanting kill the cops. But the news media chalked it up to just fruits for that older black male. The rationale, the moral framework, was the same emotively used to justify the beatings of homosexuals back in the 1950s.

What you love is what you get infuriated over when disrespected.

If you love people with the character traits like Michael Brown then you get infuriated when they are disrespected (not even killed). If you don't love people like that older black male that was not bothering anyone but was violently attacked, then you chalk it up as he got what he deserved.

In the end neither white Americans nor Black-Americans can hide what and who it is they love. That applies to cops or public school teachers. It applies to the American flag vs the crucifix. Emotions are the great truth tellers and people have a difficult time hiding them for to long. Eventually, if you love another woman you are around, and you no longer love your wife, it will be revealed. Of course, one might try to lie. People do that. They lie all the time.

My question is, who does Jesus love? :D

I'm willing to bet that question can ultimately reveal a lot of Muslims are deep down in their hearts good people and a lot of Christians are as wicked as the fallen angels themselves.

CryOfALion,

Some of what you say may be true. But I don't know that the IMF and World Bank control the resources of Brazil. Certainly, the IMF, World Bank, and even the developed nations have placed developing nations into perpetual debtors servitude.

Brazil some decades ago worked impressively to pay of some of its international debts. The history of the economic development of Brazil in large part explains why it is part of the developing nations today. During the early 20th century it never really industrialized the way the United States, England, Germany, and Belgium did. It remained mostly an agrarian society that had a colonial relationship not so unlike it had with the crown of Portugal at one time, and the American colonies had with the crown of England. Because Brazil was independent during the 20th century it's called neo-colonialism. And that defined Brazil's economic relationship to the United States and Europe throughout most the 20th century.

That in large part explains why there was so little upward mobility among mulatto and black Brazilians. It was like my black grandparents being impoverished sharecroppers in Mississippi after slavery had ceased officially existing. The infrastructure was not in place for upward mobility. In most respects. By the late 1800s some black and mixed-race peoples in the urban centers of both the USA and Brazil had accumulated wealth (in purchasing power) surpassing what most Black-Americans and white Americans have today. These were exceptions to the rule though. Statistical outliers. But they existed. But in Brazil's case you only had a few real urban centers (like Rio de Janeiro) of any consequence. And the City of Sao Paulo by far was the most (and only real) industrial and financial mighty center of Brazil. So much so that even into the late 20th century the City of Sao Paulo alone produced roughly 50% of Brazil's entire GDP. And the City of Sao Paulo ran an economy twice the size of the whole country of Chile and roughly equal to the entire size of all of Mexico. That put dark skinned (and I think female too?) mayors of Sao Paulo in a mighty and important administrative position. I'm not sure a mayoral position in the USA could said to be it's equal.

One of the best things the USA did--and Protestant probably always initiated democratic changes like this before Catholics ever did--was to create the HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Brazil never did. That had a dramatic impact I think in keeping upward mobility out of the reaches of mulatto and black Brazilians.

But first and foremost you need access to middle-class or high paying jobs for those on the bottom (be it racial minorities or not) to move "up." Flint, Michigan should be a prime example of that after industries fled that city.

The City of Sao Paulo today probably has more automotive factory jobs than Detroit Michigan has. The trajectory for Sao Paulo is upward, or a rightward shift on an economic graph, whereas Detroit's is downward, or a leftward shift on an economic graph. And Detroit is the United States largest black city.

Brown and black Brazilians--I think Dominicans too--are going to financially surpass ethnic Black-Americans in the coming future. More near than far I suspect. I think the Dominicans, if they can keep an impressive economic growth rate, will do the best, especially since the population of the Dominican Republic is a lot smaller than Brazil's enormous population size.

Brazil itself is one of the wealthiest nations in the world in terms of GDP size. However, very little of that wealth produced ever "trickled down." Therefore, the rise of the left-wing government administrations in Brazil as a response to those right-wing failures.

But I think you are on to something about a cabal of international elites that effectively run the world. I believe in the existence of the New World Order. I think Putin has emerged as a thorn in their side. I'm sure that was a major reason Obama opened up to Cuba. These leaders in their 60s that run countries are usually not much more than teenage gang bangers at the end of the day. They make alliances and wars based over gang banger money goals and little childish fights over who has the biggest penis.

And the saying, "Knowledge is power," I have been told, actually meant that whoever has knowledge of how to control money and wealth will be in power.

And the European Union and the USA are demonstrating that with organizing economic hits on the Russian economy. I think this is what you meant about the USA backed IMF and World Bank controlling developing nations. Supposedly (I'm not sure how true it is but I find it believable), the USA has for decades carried out economic hits on the economies of developing nations. That supposedly how they controlled puppet governments. But the USA is losing some of its might as BRICS nations don't simply run to its every command. But then is it just the USA or a collection of elites throughout Europe and the USA known as the New World Order?

--

All that said my question about who Jesus loves was one more of a meditative one or question for reflection. I'm not sure I had an answer nor did I expect one. But somehow I doubt Jesus would be on either side of this police dispute, other than He will judge those that were cops and those that were All American gangsters, just as he will judge the prostitute they all want to stone to death. In other words... I suspect Jesus views "cops" as sinners too, and I doubt He as enamored with black hoodlums and young black cats robbing stores as Black-Americans (younger than the WWII Generation) are.
