The word “
dude” insulting when used with a general audience;
Especially in an office setting or among Christians, the word “dude” can be offensive particularly if there are elderly people around.
The word “
dude” is used especially with stoners, surfers, and skaters.
American films in the 1980s and 1990s used the word with two meanings: one as a “cool person” and one as a “lazy deadbeat.”
So seeing there are negative references attached to this word, some folks can take that word as a sign of disrespect because they may believe you are insulting them.
The origin of the word was insulting to begin with.
1) Originally, “dude” meant a stuck up person who dressed overly well. It first emerged in the year 1883 in England.
2) Later it was used in the old west to mean a city person who moved to the west without actually know what he was doing. Synonymous with “city-slicker”
Romans 14:21
”It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine,
nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth,
or is offended, or is made weak.”
Imagine if you use this word among a Christian who associates this word “dude” with his stoner (druggy) lifestyle.
Do not do anything to lead a brother to potentialy stumble.

Definitely do not go to South Africa and speak this word openly to respected people, and children. It is a swear word.
Granted, the spelling is different, but the point is to be aware that words matter to people and they can affect them (either for good or evil).
Side Note:
Some in the new generation are trying to change this, but look at how things are lately. Christians are battling the whole “woke” agenda among other things. Why add to these problems by using a word that can offend many people?
Let go and let God! But.... I suppose you can't do that.
This sounds like the exact opposite of what the Bible says.
Luke 13:24 says,
”
Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”
