The passage begins with the question: who will separate us (saved ones) from the love of Christ? Included in the exhaustive list of who CAN'T separate us is both "things present and things to come".

In context, esp following the 3 uses of "pas" in the previous verse, which was used exhaustively, it does mean every single human being in the entire universe, all of which reside on ol' planet earth, of course.

That's right. He meant all of whom he was talking about; every single human being on ol' planet earth.

Even in English, we use words like this. When a teacher says "everyone, sit down", she is referring to her class, not every person in human history from Adam to the last remaining person on the planet.

The context does NOT show any classroom, or special group he was referring to. The "many sons" follows in a new paragraph, and cannot be linked to the "all" in v.9, which concluded a paragraph. Sheesh!

The point continues to be that if he meant some select group by "all", he would have identified them IN v.9 after "all". As in…"all the believers", or "all the elect", or "all the many sons".

But that is quite awkward. I never hear Calvinists claim that Jesus died for ALL the elect. They always emphasize that He died ONLY for the elect.

So such arguments fail to convince.
