Turkey threatens to SHOOT DOWN Putin's planes as it drags West closer to war with Russia

TURKEY'S Prime Minister has risked launching World War 3 between the West and Russia after threatening to SHOOT DOWN Putin's war planes in the country's airspace.

The deadly threat comes just a day after the NATO member, which holds the Western alliance's second largest army, shot down a mysterious unidentified drone near its border with Syria.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has since ratcheted up the war rhetoric as the chaotic conflict in Syria threatens to spill over into Turkey and beyond.

Syrian, Russian and U.S-led coalition aircraft are flying combat missions close to Turkey's borders as part of the ongoing Syrian conflict against Islamic State.

Russia is the one starting it by invading Turkey's sovereign airspace. The Turks are only doing what sovereign nations do.

Edit: does Turkey really have NATO's second largest army? Not saying that's wrong, I'd just never heard it before.

Us has the second largest military, with 1.3 million active military, in the world behind China, making us 1st in Nato. The next NATO country on the list is Turkey with 471,000 active military members. Mexico is 3rd with around 280,000 active military.

Cool. How that translates as effective fighting force is a different matter, but they have more guys in uniform than I knew. Cool.
