The decision to ship/send refugees to the US is where the powers that be in Australia blew it.
I have no idea why Australia can't handle its own refugees (and, considering Trump's recent executive order, why America can't handle America's). But I also feel like Trump should act more respectful to others, and less like an impulsive man-baby.

Guess Trump lost the Aussie vote.
He won the election. Now it's time for statesmanship. Insulting an ally of 100 years unquestionable good standing is not very statesmanlike.

It's complicated. Short answer, though, is we handle plenty of refugees.

lol. You are a first world country overflowing with money and resources. I mean Americans are in no place to judge but c'mon.

And, iirc, we are a per capita world leader in refugee resettlement.

So Trump tweeted, "The Obama administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!" Takeaways:

1. The President has no idea that refugees aren't illegal immigrants! Immigration and refugee resettlement are supposed to be the topics he's most passionate about and he still doesn't know the first thing. Whatever, it's not like people's lives hang in the balance.

2. He decided the agreement was dumb, then decided he would study it. Shouldn't he study it first and form his opinion afterward?

3. At least he didn't say "Austria."

The number involved is, iirc 1250. Not "thousands ",

Another perspective on Trump and Turnbull's conversation, along with comments from readers of this newspaper in Australia that were most interesting:

LABOR: TURNBULL MUST CONFIRM OR DENY
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten told media today: “I think Mr Turnbull needs to confirm or deny the accuracy of that report. “He made it clear that he had a constructive discussion and that the refugee deal, which Labor supports, was on track. “But now it appears another different version of the same conversation has emerged. I just say to Mr Turnbull, ‘talk straight to the Australian people. Tell us what’s going on’.” “We want to see the refugee deal happen, but clearly President Trump and his people are saying one thing happened in this conversation, which is completely at odds with what Prime Minister Turnbull has told the Australian people. They both can’t be right and I think it’s in the interests of the Australian people for Mr Turnbull just to be straight with the people and tell us what’s really going on.”

Just as a side note that i could not help noticing: Prime Minster Turnbull was apparently trashing Trump in a video or recording before Trump was elected and when Hillary was assumed to be the winner of the election, and Trump and his staff recently became privy to Turnbull trashing Trump behind closed doors.

That would make him a Democrat, or at least, not a Republican.

I was making fun of Donald Trump and Sean Spicer lying all the time. After day one of his presidency, Trump was claiming "1.5 million people" showed up to his inauguration and called it "the largest inauguration day crowd of all time," when you could see from overhead pictures that Obama's 2009 crowd was like three times as big.
