He used to be reasonably smart and fluent in English. He has declined noticeably in recent years. If you look at his recorded interviews in the 80s, it is hard to believe it is the same person.

When people make statements that are obviously contradictory to each other or their perception of truth, it is usually sarcasm (as in this case).

I understand that a) you have trouble identifying sarcasm and b) people say some pretty outlandish things on these forums with (at least the pretense of) sincerity

Don't him that luxury of claiming dementia (especially for a future card pull).

He is a demagogue; I think he knows what centennial means, but is banking on the zealotry of his base, and their perceived ignorance to look the other way when he does something questionable. Why would you risk looking so foolish if it didn't mean, say, securing your constituency by exploiting human willingness to be a part of "something".

Trump is very smart, and he knows how to manipulate human psychology - which is why he has made so much money doing "nothing" but advertise himself. He knows how to get people to trust him just like all politicians do. That is why he is so dangerous; if he was stupid and a real buffoon, we would only have to hope he or his cabinet member who didn't realize he had the nook codes does not do anything. But, with such an entity like Trump it is possible for him to orchestrate something to keep power. History less than 100 years old shows us this is what demagogues do.
