Half a like. I like the first sentence.

Can't think of a single "good thing" he has done or will do for the U.S. but agree on the sheer and absolute insanity.
I think it’s good he ripped the bandage off this gender identity nonsense, DEI, and finally deporting people that shouldn’t be there.

The irony is that the Left still don’t realise this is entirely of their making. When you squash any criticism or conversation around immigration, gender or things like that, branding people racist or whatever else, you silence valid concerns along with the invalid ones. People get fed up being not just ignored, but silenced through bullying tactics and ‘might is right’ approach.

Deportations obviously aren’t pleasant, but people are only focused on that, totally absolving those that settled illegally of their own wrongdoing, or the failures of successive governments to deal with the issue before now, or States making exceptions etc.

Gender is another thing being forced in our faces. You have to be supportive or you’re a bigot, homophobe, transphobe or whatever else. Absolutely fed up with it.

DEI stuff as well is pure discrimination with good PR.

So yes, I’m glad that an albeit crass voice has been given to millions not just in America but around the world as we seem to inherit a lot from the U.S. in terms of social norms.

That’s not to say Trump is a good person. I think he’s awful, but I do think in all his flailing he’ll still hit the mark on a couple things. Incidents like today though truly are tragic, and it’s unsettling to see what comes next now he’s going against longstanding allies in Europe and towing Putin’s line.

I can fully understand why maga people would like to avoid this thread.

Some actually buy into the vibe that Putin and various other new right autocrats are sort of "white knight" saviors of traditional morality.

But most still have their heads screwed on just enough to see the real threat to liberty and small-r republican order. They need time to process this, I guess.

I think people need to rapidly realise that being one dimensional isn’t good, and just because you agree with a politician on some things, it’s OK and, arguably, morally consistent to disagree with them on other things.

I am glad to see some of what Trump is doing, but his comments about Ukraine and Zelensky are simply unacceptable. I hope he backtracks and is reigned in with reason by those around him, because if he isn’t then he’ll only be entrenched and lean more towards Putin.

Problem is, he had some staffers and advisers who tried to reign him in with reason during his first term. They all either resigned or were fired, and many of them wrote books and articles issuing desperate warnings, calling him "the most dangerous individual in the world," for example (I believe that was General Mille.) Or, more succinctly, "a moron." (Tillerson).

This time he dredged the swamp to come up with fawning syncophants.

We can only hope and pray for common sense to prevail.

I fear we’ll be praying for a long time, though.

Of course, the last excuse of the moderate as he makes common cause with the far right: "The Left made me do it!".

You’re an Atheist. Suppose I kept insisting you become Christian. I’d bully you, shame you, try and get you fired for ‘heretical’ or ‘blasphemous’ comments online.

You absolutely had to, and I would make it my job to legislate your compliance.

Wider society felt similarly and would also exhibit the same behaviour as above to varying extents and extremes, all while any attempts at discussing your opposition was met with further bullying, labelling you as a bigot etc.

Do you think you would be more or less likely to vote for someone that says they will defend your right to practice any faith or none at all?

My mistake, apologies!

Same question, just applicable to your own circumstances.
I think that I would note change my voting behaviour based on the mud slinging of a christian.

I agree with High Fidelity in this point.

And I've said myself that unreasonable opposition from the entrenched will push the moderate to the opposite extreme.

thats the funny thing about americans, they seem to have this, "you can destroy my life and this country as long as you get rid of, "Abortion, imigrating, trans." everyone knew all the bad things happening to the US would happen, if you can be sold for a few petty promises then your the problem not the democrats.

REminds me of those that didn't vote for harris due to isreal stance, gee how that go for them now?

I don't think anyone expected this.

Perhaps a less favourable outcome than Ukraine would hope for if it ended the war, but this is just too much.

I think Ukraine would cede territory so long as there were concrete plans in place to prevent this happening again, like NATO membership.

That would have been the compromise that seemed lost likely to me. Both sides lose, both sides gain, and ol' Donald gets another 'deal' to tout.

People totally expected this.

Donald got a nice deal, though. Half of Ukraine's minerals.

Not only did people expect it, but it was the subject of one of Harris' strongest attacks during their debate. She absolutely hammered him on Ukraine, saying, "If Donald Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kiev right now."

She laughed wrong, though.
