A blown whistle sorta makes a tweet noise.

Co-founder of Trump’s media company details Truth Social’s bitter infighting
Will Wilkerson, one of Trump Media & Technology Group’s first employees, alleges the company violated securities laws and that Trump pressured executives to hand over their shares to his wife. He shared a cache of internal documents with The Post and federal investigators that he says support his claims.

The email — one of hundreds of previously unreported company messages, documents, photos and audio recordings that Wilkerson has provided to the SEC in connection with a whistleblower submission — reveals a stunning portrait of the animosity that has built up inside Trump Media since its high-profile debut last year.

Wilkerson, who was fired from his job Thursday as a senior vice president of operations at the company after he spoke to The Post, filed the whistleblower complaint with the SEC in August. The complaint, drafted by Wilkerson’s attorneys, alleges that the company’s bid to raise money via an investment vehicle known as a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, relied on “fraudulent misrepresentations … in violation of federal securities laws.”

-

When Orlando had first gotten involved, he’d suggested merging Trump Media with Benessere, the already-public SPAC. But Orlando also began suggesting a second option, Wilkerson said: one of Orlando’s newer SPACs, Digital World, that had yet to be launched but could raise much more money.

Digital World’s registration form, filed with the SEC in May 2021 and signed by Orlando, said the SPAC and its representatives had not “initiated any substantive discussions, directly or indirectly, with any business combination target.”

[Wilkerson and Litinsky]
were so stunned by the suggestion of something they believed to be improper that they wondered whether it was a government setup or if Orlando had been wearing a secret recording device. The log quotes Litinsky in calling it the “roughest day so far” and says, “Patrick [Orlando] pitches [us] plan b, I get scared, is he wearing a wire?”

The men arranged a brief follow-up meeting with Orlando shortly after — this time, to record their conversation with him, during which they stated their concerns. “We can only engage in discussions after they’re public. That’s the rule,” Litinsky can be heard saying on the recording, a copy of which Wilkerson shared with The Post and the SEC.

Orlando responded, “That’s exactly the rules we have to play by.” He then added, “We have to be very smart. Obviously, we can talk hypothetically about if there were another vehicle,” at which point Litinsky cuts him off. Later, Orlando says, “We’ll make some magic happen.”

Is there anything that has survived Trump’s damaging touch? Things that come into his orbit seem to never fair well.

Possibly it's a sign of success that Truth Social is now big enough to attract Russian troll farms spreading misinformation.

Russian Trolls Made Fake Kid Rock Fan Accounts — and Fooled Donald Trump Jr.

Researchers found Russian-linked fake accounts posing as authentic American conservatives cross-posting content to personas on Truth Social, Gab, and Gettr. While right-wing social platforms like Gab and Parler have previously played host to Russian influence operations, the report marks the first documented case of Russian meddling on Truth Social, the social media app founded by Trump.

The trolls stuck to themes familiar to previous Russian influence operations, including support for fringe or far-right candidates. The trolls backed Kari Lake, the Trump-backed failed Republican candidate for governor, creating a “war room” account for Lake that has since pivoted to echoing bogus voter-fraud claims in the wake of her defeat. In addition to hyping Lake, the trolls also attacked Democratic Senate candidates in battleground states, such Raphael Warnock in Georgia and John Fetterman in Pennsylvania.
...
“The tactics are exactly what we’ve come to expect from these actors since 2016. They use fake personas to imitate, infiltrate, and attempt to influence a specific online community,” Tyler Williams, director of investigations at Graphika, tells Rolling Stone. “These personas then coordinate across multiple platforms to amplify division and exacerbate existing tensions. This is precisely the behavior that gets them caught on Facebook and YouTube, but on alt-tech platforms they appear to enjoy relatively free rein.”

Possibly Trump can't remain faithful to just one social media platform.

Donald Trump prepares for his return to Facebook and Twitter

Trump's presidential campaign formally petitioned Facebook's parent company Tuesday to unblock his account, according to a letter reviewed by NBC News.

[After the attack on the Capitol,] Facebook ultimately decided to institute a limited ban on Trump that would come up for review after two years, starting Jan. 7 of this year.

Twitter planned a permanent ban, but new owner Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account on Nov. 19 and then criticized the company’s previous leadership for the ban.

Trump, however, hasn’t yet tweeted.

Another Trump confidant who also didn’t want to be identified speaking about conversations with him said that Trump has sought input for weeks about hopping back on Twitter and that his campaign advisers have also workshopped ideas for his first tweet.

Trump’s plans to expand his social media footprint also speak to the limits of Truth Social’s reach. Trump has slightly more than 4.8 million followers on the platform, compared to nearly 88 million on Twitter and 34 million on Facebook.

I had heard that 45 had a “non-competitive” rider in his Truth-social contract that precluded him from jumping ship should his accounts at other social media sites change to “active”.

"Some advisers said Trump might be limited in posting on other social media platforms now that he has founded his own, called Truth Social. Truth Social declined to comment about any alleged limits, and a spokesman for Trump said the campaign believes he’ll be able to return to Twitter as before."

Meta says it will restore Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts

“Our determination is that the risk [to public safety] has sufficiently receded,” Meta President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg said in a blog post. “As such, we will be reinstating Mr. Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks. However, we are doing so with new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.”

Federal investigators examined Trump Media for possible money laundering, sources say

Federal prosecutors in New York involved in the criminal investigation into Donald Trump’s social media company last year started examining whether it violated money laundering statutes in connection with the acceptance of $8m with suspected Russian ties, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The company – Trump Media, which owns Trump’s Truth Social platform – initially came under criminal investigation over its preparations for a potential merger with a blank check company called Digital World (DWAC) that was also the subject of an earlier investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Towards the end of last year, federal prosecutors started examining two loans totaling $8m wired to Trump Media, through the Caribbean, from two obscure entities that both appear to be controlled in part by the relation of an ally of Russian president Vladimir Putin, the sources said.

[DWAC CEO Patrick] Orlando declined to provide details about the true identity of the lenders or the origin of the money to Trump Media executives, Trump Media’s since-ousted co-founder turned whistleblower Will Wilkerson recounted in an interview.

--

The former president's media company has reportedly laid off a handful of employees as a criminal probe into Trump Media grows to include money laundering.

In response to ongoing fiscal hardship, the company has cut about six staff, including executives, according to Bloomberg and attributed to multiple unnamed sources. Laid off staff include Chief Technology Officer, William “BJ” Lawson, who has been the third person to take on the role at TMTG, per the outlet. Sources reportedly told Bloomberg that Trump Media and Truth Social have the funds to keep operating through September.

The oddest part of the TMTG presentation is the “technology team” listed on Slide 21. The company has apparently filled 30 important jobs already, but it only lists these team members with a first name and last initial. The chief technology officer is “Josh A.” “Steve E.” is VP of engineering. One of the senior mobile developers is “BJ.” Are these real people or stand-ins? We may never know: As a footnote explains: “personnel subject to change.”

Josh A quit previously, so possibly that BJ became the CTO that has now been laid off.
