  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals - Wikipedia

It is worthwhile at this point to note that both the OP and the largest segment of the vote are answering to the false narrative that DACA is about children born in America staying in America.
Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals means that the children arrived in America after being born somewhere else.
Children born in America are American citizens. American citizens don't get deported, for to deport people born in America to their country of origin means in effect to deport people back to America.
What is basically an emotional response does not require facts though, as has been pointed out so often in the past.
This is an another example of this.

I didn't notice this particular confusion in the OP, and where's it's been brought up elsewhere, it's been quickly corrected. Nevertheless, it's good to be reminded that we are speaking about children here.

I would also like to ask people what specifically the crime was -- simply being in the country or the circumstances by which one enters it?

Obama gave DACA kids a temporary reprieve when Congress wouldn't act.

Trump has put a date on the end of this reprieve, asked Congress to act, and said that he would re-visit if Congress didn't act. He now has started to negotiate with Democrats. DACA language will almost certainly be part of the budget or debt ceiling bill passed in December.

We may hate Trump's rhetoric, but Clinton would not have effected this possible change. Clinton would have already been defending DACA in court, as Trump would have had to do if he didn't end the temporary solution. Trump chose negotiation.

BOTTOM LINE
DACA kids will be better off in 6 months than they would have been under Clinton.

BTW, the same may be true for healthcare, since some legislation will likely be passed to make minor improvements in Obamacare, again likely part of the December deals.

What will Trump get out of the deals, in addition to "wins"? He will get some spending to complete Obama border initiatives (which Trump will call "the wall").
Trump will also get increases in military spending. Finally, Trump will likely get a couple of wins before December.

If this works out, Trump will put infrastructure on the agenda for January, along with tax reform (if business tax reform isn't passed by the end of the year).

I really don't understand the discussion.

Those are innocent children. Throw them under the wheels of the Trump Train. A prison or a ticket to equador or whatever hellhole this spawn crawled out of is too good for them, they should be thrown into guantanamo bay with the other terrorists.

Or just execute them. Remember Matthew 19:14.

I don't think we can honestly expect the scripture you cited, or any scripture with instructions on how the followers of Jesus are to treat other people, to actually matter in this thread considering all of the apathetic responses from the right wing Christians who disgracefully want to throw these innocent children under the wheels of the Trump Train. Jesus' Parable of the Sheep and the Goats (Matthew 25:31-46) has already been mentioned twice in this thread and it was pretty much ignored, expect for one response that dismissed it. If I may say so, I think it's very disheartening to see this kind of apathy and uncompassionate attitude from these right wing Christians toward these innocent children.

It is disappointing seeing the reactions to the repeal of DACA by some religious/political conservatives. Fortunately, my pastors and my bishop present a more Gospel centered response.

What about those Americans that employed them?
Proposals for E-verify legislation and the like specifically target illegally hiring, and puts the onus on the businesses that take advantage of the flood of cheap labor without the rights that citizenship confers upon legitimately documented workers.
If fines are not sufficient to cut into the profits that make these illegal hiring practices worthwhile in the first place, then jail time is the next option.
The kinds of enforcement that controls the employers are not rocket science, as long as the political will is there. These kinds of things are very doable.

...interesting:

  • DREAM Act: Pelosi said that during yesterday's meeting, President Trump said he would sign the DREAM Act if the House passes it. "I am hoping and I am praying that the president really cares about the DREAMers."
  • On Pelosi telling Trump to send his DACA tweet: "When he called this morning, I said thanks for calling, and said 'The people really need a reassurance from you that the six-month period is not a period of round up... and boom, boom, boom, the tweet appeared."
Pelosi says McConnell sealed yesterday's debt ceiling deal

I always wonder with these kind of discussions if people actually know what DACA is and what it did. I can understand being against it as bad policy, though I disagree with that, but all these people saying it's unconstitutional doesn't make sense to me.

The OP isn't referring to children born in the US, who are indeed US citizens according to the 14th Amendment. It's referring to illegal immigrants who came to this country when they were under 18 years old.

But I was referring to the children of those dreamers. I understand that many of the dreamers are now in their 20s and 30s, so many of them would have kids of their own...born in the USA.

So, not only does this action of Trump's serve to remove nearly a million very worthwhile and productive people from your society, it would also involve the forced removal of legal US citizens, through no fault of their own.

How crazy is that...?

They could still stay in the USA and panhandle on the streets.

What a load of unsubstantiated, unproven horse radish.

Oh, which part....that Trump's house was hit by the hurricane, or that evangelicals attribute disasters to 'punishment of the gods'...?

Because there's evidence for both...

Obama initiated DACA with an executive order.

Trump ended it with 6 months notice with an executive order.

Good luck to the petitioners!

A law will likely be passed before they win. It is interesting that they are not focusing on passing a new law.
