The buildup of aircraft on the island of Diego Garcia – comprising at least one third of the Air Force's stealth bombing fleet – accomplishes three tasks with one strategic move, increasing the United States' military presence in the region, enabling continued strikes of targets in Yemen and sending a message to Iran, experts told ABC News.

Trump on Sunday threatened "bombing the likes of which they have never seen before" if Iran continues supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen and refuses to wind down their nuclear program.

"If they don't make a deal, there will be bombing," Trump said in a telephone interview with NBC News on March 30, one day after the aircraft begin to amass on Diego Garcia.

More than two weeks into the Trump administration’s intensified airstrike campaign in Yemen, Hegseth has rushed further military assets to U.S. Central Command. He’s extended the deployment of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group in the Red Sea and announced the carrier Carl Vinson and its strike group would soon join it. The Pentagon has also sent multiple A-10 BRRRRRTs to the region and at least six B-2 stealth bombers to Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia, a U.S. base in the Indian Ocean.

That means that roughly half of the Air Force’s B-2 fleet that is able to carry out missions is now deployed to Diego Garcia.

Russia Says It Won't Have to Defend Iran in Win for Trump​

On Monday, Trump said the U.S. was having direct talks with Tehran over its nuclear program which western countries fear will lead to it developing a weapon. Tehran, which says its program is for peaceful purposes, said the meeting in Oman would be through an intermediary.

Trump warned if the talks were not successful "it'll be a very bad day for Iran." He had earlier threatened Iran with bombing and secondary tariffs if Tehran did not come to an agreement over its nuclear program.

Buoyed by the shared experience of tough U.S-led sanctions, Russia and Iran have close military ties, which have deepened since Vladimir Putin's full-scale invasion [of Ukraine].

In the extraordinary mishap attributed to human error, the $70 million jet was being towed out of the hanger bay of the USS Harry S. Truman when the crew lost control.

“The F/A-18E was actively under tow in the hangar bay when the move crew lost control of the aircraft. The aircraft and tow tractor were lost overboard,” the Navy wrote in a statement.

To be fair, I assume the Pentagon has drawn up 58 different plans to smite Iran's nuclear program. But for the option to be bandied about by the political leadership as they itch to grasp the reins is a bit alarming.

I think nukes should be treated like guns. Every person is entitled to self defense, and the same should apply to every nation having the ability to defend itself with nukes. An armed society is a polite society.

I think nukes should be treated like guns. Every person is entitled to self defense, and the same should apply to every nation having the ability to defend itself with nukes. An armed society is a polite society.

Why limit it to nations? Give every person in the world a red button and as soon as one person pushes their button, kablooey!
