GOP Rep. Thomas Massie takes first step to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files

Massie's discharge petition push comes as he and Democrat Ro Khanna will host Epstein victims at a news conference on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Trump Administration straight up threatening Republicans who favor the release of the Epstein Files.

“Helping Thomas Massie and liberal Democrats with their attention-seeking, while the DOJ is fully supporting a more comprehensive file release effort from the oversight committee, would be viewed as a very hostile act to the administration,” said a White House official, according to Diaz.

President Donald Trump has feuded with Massie in the past over his persistence on Epstein, calling him the “worst Republican congressman,” and said he was actively “looking for someone good to run against this guy.” Massie, however, has remained undeterred, and on Wednesday, fired back against the White House’s threats.

“They’re threatening anyone who helps bring true transparency and justice for the survivors,” Massie wrote Wednesday in a social media post on X. “This is a tacit admission the Oversight Committee data release is woefully incomplete.”

House Republican Says Trump ‘May Be Covering for Some Rich and Powerful People’ in the Epstein Files

Host Chris Hayes noted the recent transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell to a lower-security facility.

Massie responded:

This is unprecedented, the kind of treatment that she’s been given. I think the best way to clear President Trump’s name is to release all the files. I actually don’t think he’s done anything criminal. I think he may be covering for some rich and powerful people that are friends of his.
And in fact, some of those billionaires are running ads against me in Kentucky right now. One of them is in Epstein’s black book. So, we’re getting close to the center of power here.

Massie's discharge petition had 206 signatures as of Wednesday afternoon. It needs 218 to compel a vote on the House floor.

So far, four Republicans have signed on to the Massie and Khanna discharge petition -- a procedural tool to bypass GOP leadership and force a vote. Those signers include Massie, Reps. Nancy Mace, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. If all 212 Democrats sign the petition, only two more Republicans are needed.

Speaker Mike Johnson urged Republicans to not support Massie's discharge petition during a closed conference meeting Wednesday morning, according to multiple sources.

"This is a Democrat hoax that never ends," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked about the push for more transparency in the Epstein matter.

Like a well-oiled machine, the edited-not-raw footage released by Bongino with a missing minute may not have a missing minute.

There was no "missing minute" in the original Epstein jail video, government source says

Release of ‘missing minute’ of Epstein video contradicts Bondi claim cameras stopped recording

A so-called “missing minute” of CCTV footage, a key ingredient of conspiracy theories surrounding the prison death of the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been found, contradicting the assertion of Pam Bondi, the attorney general, that it was recorded over.

The video was in a cache of material, including 33,000 pages of records relating to the disgraced financier and former Donald Trump associate, released late on Tuesday by the US House oversight committee.

Conspiracy theorists leapt on the development as “proof” there was something suspicious about Epstein’s death, fuelled by Bondi’s insistence at the time that the prison’s CCTV system was routinely reset every 24 hours. That, she told a cabinet meeting on 8 July, meant every night’s footage would feature a “missing” minute. [Did she just make that up? Who told her that?]

But CBS reported [previous post] later that month that there was no blackout in the recording, and that the justice department, bureau of prisons, and the FBI had a full version including the previously unaccounted for 60 seconds.

See? These Epstein files releases are revealing the lies of the powerful!

‘She’s Trying to Take Down Trump’: Laura Loomer Slams ‘Despicable Traitor’ MTG for Joining Epstein Files Push

Far-right provocateur Laura Loomer is going scorched earth on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), accusing the congresswoman of betraying Donald Trump by joining a bipartisan push to unseal the long-buried files of Jeffrey Epstein

“There’s become two Americas,” Greene said during the press conference. “There’s the America for the rich and the powerful and the elite—where they never face any struggles or problems… And then there’s forgotten America that faces all the problems and deals with all the issues and never gets justice for being sexually assaulted and raped by a monster.”

“This isn’t one political party or the other,” she added. “It’s a culmination of everyone [who] worked together to silence these women and protect Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal.”

Greene later revealed on Real America’s Voice that she had received “a lot of pushback” from Trump’s orbit for supporting the petition—but stopped short of blaming Trump himself.

Will the true protectors of Donald Trump please stand up? Is it the group trying to hide the files or the group trying to expose the files?
