In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. GOP Rep. Thomas Massie takes first step to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files

Massie's discharge petition push comes as he and Democrat Ro Khanna will host Epstein victims at a news conference on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Trump Administration straight up threatening Republicans who favor the release of the Epstein Files.

“Helping Thomas Massie and liberal Democrats with their attention-seeking, while the DOJ is fully supporting a more comprehensive file release effort from the oversight committee, would be viewed as a very hostile act to the administration,” said a White House official, according to Diaz.

President Donald Trump has feuded with Massie in the past over his persistence on Epstein, calling him the “worst Republican congressman,” and said he was actively “looking for someone good to run against this guy.” Massie, however, has remained undeterred, and on Wednesday, fired back against the White House’s threats.

“They’re threatening anyone who helps bring true transparency and justice for the survivors,” Massie wrote Wednesday in a social media post on X. “This is a tacit admission the Oversight Committee data release is woefully incomplete.”

House Republican Says Trump ‘May Be Covering for Some Rich and Powerful People’ in the Epstein Files

Host Chris Hayes noted the recent transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell to a lower-security facility.

Massie responded:

This is unprecedented, the kind of treatment that she’s been given. I think the best way to clear President Trump’s name is to release all the files. I actually don’t think he’s done anything criminal. I think he may be covering for some rich and powerful people that are friends of his.
And in fact, some of those billionaires are running ads against me in Kentucky right now. One of them is in Epstein’s black book. So, we’re getting close to the center of power here.

Massie's discharge petition had 206 signatures as of Wednesday afternoon. It needs 218 to compel a vote on the House floor.

So far, four Republicans have signed on to the Massie and Khanna discharge petition -- a procedural tool to bypass GOP leadership and force a vote. Those signers include Massie, Reps. Nancy Mace, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. If all 212 Democrats sign the petition, only two more Republicans are needed.

Speaker Mike Johnson urged Republicans to not support Massie's discharge petition during a closed conference meeting Wednesday morning, according to multiple sources.

"This is a Democrat hoax that never ends," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked about the push for more transparency in the Epstein matter.

Like a well-oiled machine, the edited-not-raw footage released by Bongino with a missing minute may not have a missing minute.

There was no "missing minute" in the original Epstein jail video, government source says

Release of ‘missing minute’ of Epstein video contradicts Bondi claim cameras stopped recording

A so-called “missing minute” of CCTV footage, a key ingredient of conspiracy theories surrounding the prison death of the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been found, contradicting the assertion of Pam Bondi, the attorney general, that it was recorded over.

The video was in a cache of material, including 33,000 pages of records relating to the disgraced financier and former Donald Trump associate, released late on Tuesday by the US House oversight committee.

Conspiracy theorists leapt on the development as “proof” there was something suspicious about Epstein’s death, fuelled by Bondi’s insistence at the time that the prison’s CCTV system was routinely reset every 24 hours. That, she told a cabinet meeting on 8 July, meant every night’s footage would feature a “missing” minute. [Did she just make that up? Who told her that?]

But CBS reported [previous post] later that month that there was no blackout in the recording, and that the justice department, bureau of prisons, and the FBI had a full version including the previously unaccounted for 60 seconds.

See? These Epstein files releases are revealing the lies of the powerful!

‘She’s Trying to Take Down Trump’: Laura Loomer Slams ‘Despicable Traitor’ MTG for Joining Epstein Files Push

Far-right provocateur Laura Loomer is going scorched earth on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), accusing the congresswoman of betraying Donald Trump by joining a bipartisan push to unseal the long-buried files of Jeffrey Epstein

“There’s become two Americas,” Greene said during the press conference. “There’s the America for the rich and the powerful and the elite—where they never face any struggles or problems… And then there’s forgotten America that faces all the problems and deals with all the issues and never gets justice for being sexually assaulted and raped by a monster.”

“This isn’t one political party or the other,” she added. “It’s a culmination of everyone [who] worked together to silence these women and protect Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal.”

Greene later revealed on Real America’s Voice that she had received “a lot of pushback” from Trump’s orbit for supporting the petition—but stopped short of blaming Trump himself.

Will the true protectors of Donald Trump please stand up? Is it the group trying to hide the files or the group trying to expose the files?

Trump Responds After Report on 50th Birthday Letter to Jeffrey Epstein

The president told the Journal in a Tuesday interview: "This is not me. This is a fake thing. It's a fake Wall Street Journal story. I never wrote a picture in my life. I don't draw pictures of women. It's not my language. It's not my words."

Trump ranted about the Journal on Truth Social, writing: "The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter they printed by President Trump to Epstein was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued. Mr. Murdoch stated that he would take care of it but, obviously, did not have the power to do so. The Editor of The Wall Street Journal, Emma Tucker, was told directly by Karoline Leavitt, and by President Trump, that the letter was a FAKE, but Emma Tucker didn't want to hear that. Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway."

Trump Epstein letter and drawing from ‘birthday book’ released

The letter is publicly visible for the first time since its existence was first reported by The Wall Street Journal in mid July. Trump has not only denied writing the letter, but sued the newspaper for defamation.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that the publication of the drawing “PROVES this entire ‘Birthday Card’ story is false.”

“As I have said all along, it’s very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it,” Leavitt said in an X post.

The denials on the birthday letter

It would be difficult to prove with absolute certainty that Trump wrote the birthday letter. But what we do know is his denials haven’t added up.

The letter features a strange imagined conversation between Trump and Epstein typed inside the outline of a female body.

Immediately after the story published, Trump said, “I never wrote a picture in my life” and “I don’t draw pictures.” Except he clearly did draw pictures around the period in question. He said later that month that “somebody could have written a letter and used my name.”

But then his lawsuit against the Journal’s parent company claimed the letter didn’t even exist, calling it the “nonexistent letter.” We now know the letter not only existed, but it was in Epstein’s estate. That would sure suggest this wasn’t just a fake created recently to make Trump look bad; it was something that had been in Epstein’s possession.

And finally, shortly after the image of the letter was released Monday, the White House claimed the signature was so different from Trump’s that it was obviously not his. Except it closely matched his signatures on personal letters from the same time period.

Trump doesn’t face any accusations of wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. But he’s repeatedly made false claims about the convicted sex offender and his relationship with him that make it increasingly hard to take his strained denials about the letter seriously.

Yet this is what we have fallen to as a nation. We embrace lies and deceit. We condone iniquity and call it greatness. We have come to honor mischief.

Is there any hope?

The key question is, how did someone 25 years ago, know Trump was going to be president and fake that letter to Epstein? Time machine, maybe? Apparently experts have confirmed it's his signature.

(Most) Senate Republicans defeat Chuck Schumer push to force release of Epstein files

The Republican-led Senate narrowly voted Wednesday to defeat an amendment introduced by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., to compel the Justice Department to release all of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The vote was 51-49 in favor of tabling the amendment. Two Republicans — Rand Paul of Kentucky and Josh Hawley of Missouri — joined all 47 Democrats in voting against tabling the amendment.

An ambassador is fired....

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer fired the U.K. ambassador to the United States on Thursday, after officials said “additional information” came to light about his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The British Embassy in Washington said that emails written by Peter Mandelson showed “that the depth and extent of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment.”

“In particular Peter Mandelson’s suggestion that Jeffrey Epstein’s first conviction was wrongful and should be challenged is new information,” the British statement read. “In light of that, and mindful of the victims of Epstein’s crimes he has been withdrawn as Ambassador with immediate effect.”

Kash Patel Says No 'Credible' Info Epstein Trafficked Young Women to Others

[Asked 'who else' by GOP Sen Kennedy]

Patel responded, "Himself. There is no credible information, none. If there were I would bring the case yesterday"

Patel noted that the available case files only contain "limited search warrants" from 2006 and 2007, because federal prosecutors in Florida had previously struck a secret deal with Epstein that allowed him to avoid prosecution for his earlier crimes.

Kash Patel unloads all blame for botched Epstein probe onto ex-Trump official

“I know that there's a lot of talk about Epstein, and I'm here to testify that the original sin in the Epstein case was the way it was initially brought by Mr. [Alexander] Acosta back in 2006,” Patel said, testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Acosta would later say that he offered Epstein the plea deal because he was told Epstein “belonged to intelligence,” that the matter was “above his paygrade” and that he should “leave it alone.”

Can we have the files on that part?
