Trump would love to find a reason to declare martial law. That may be why he would like to see widespread rioting. Excuse to declare martial law and get some payback from his enemies.

Excuse me while I check on my “emergency plan”.
Trump declares martial law people will ignore it, he's the President that crys wolf. So Mexico could retake the Alamo and people qould just think it's another one of his exaggerations.

Ironically, a news report I heard on the way home said immigration courts close Monday because of the shutdown, so there are 750,000 people in the process of being removed who won't be removed because they can't go through the court system.

US President Donald Trump has said he is prepared for a partial shutdown of the US government - now entering its third week - to last years.

After meeting top Democrats, he also said he could declare a national emergency to bypass Congress and build a US-Mexico border wall.

Mr Trump insisted he would not sign any bill without wall funding, which Democrats adamantly oppose.

Source.

Honestly. This is just embarrassing to watch. Can someone please escort him to get ice cream with the other children while the grown-ups do some actual work?

Ok I’m not one of them but there’s a lot of crazy Americans out there with guns who aren’t going to be very happy they’re not getting that tax return they’ve been waiting on. I’m just saying it could get messy really quick. Not that I support or endorse that kind of behavior but it’s something he might want to think about.

With Trump it is now a matter of pride. He has backed himself into a corner and can't figure a way out without losing face with his supporters. Congress really does need to take more control. The man who would be king is attempting to rule by fiat (executive orders) and he is damaging the country and peoples' lives. It may take decades to undo the damage he has done in just two years.
And ironically, one of his big campaign talking points was "I'm going to repeal each and every one of Obama's illegal executive orders."

I hope Mueller is tracking the abuse of power because he shuts down the boarder or declares a state of emergency he is flaggrantly abusing his executive privalage for political gain.

It's the Supreme Court's job to decide if he's overstepped the limits of the Presidential office. Those are broad limits, though.

I know he's not the first, but it's still pretty ridiculous to do it over such a controversial subject that doesn't have anywhere close to a clear majority from the people he's there to serve.

It was the biggest point he took to the election, and he won. He's definitely got a mandate to build "the wall" (whatever that actually means).

It appears this may be what happens, as some Republican Senators already appear to be breaking ranks with the President. I suspect, if this goes on too long, you'll get enough bi-partisan support to pass, and override Trump's veto, on the original compromise that was made before Christmas (the one Trump changed his mind on the last day).
Given the Trump shutdown doesn't hurt them, I'd be surprised if the majority in the House will give up any money for the wall at this point. What incentive do they have?

Prospective illegal workers in Arizona are celebrating -- e-Verify is down.

Arizona law has for years required employers to verify that someone they want to hire can legally work in the United States.
But a federal system business owners use has been shuttered due to the partial government shutdown as the peak season for Arizona’s hospitality industry is just getting started.

I'm curious what your definition of mandate would be.
Close elections, especially one where the popular vote did not agree with the electoral college is hardly a mandate. Public opinion on the wall is overall negative. On what grounds do you think there is a mandate on this issue? A majority of the minority that voted for him, maybe?

I think the solution is obvious, get a by partisan bill through with enough votes that doesn't need his sigbiture, that's how they got the sanctions on Russia through. Trump is defining his entire administration by what he signs and don't sign. The Congress needs to send a clear message that they control the budget. He has the diplomatic skills of a gorilla who lost his bananas. I'd also like the international community censor his tarriffs so he with stop these fits and actually get involved with the process.I hope Mueller is tracking the abuse of power because he shuts down the boarder or declares a state of emergency he is flaggrantly abusing his executive privalage for political gain.

Two words: Mitch McConnell

....meanwhile, I'm not exactly thrilled at the prospect of flying in the coming weeks. The TSA union reported yesterday that "hundreds" of TSA workers are not reporting to work...but Trump has a solution:

For workers who will not be able to pay their rent, Trump suggested that landlords would “work with” them and that he would encourage them to “be nice and easy” on their tenants.

“This is national security we’re talking about. We’re not talking about games,”

[Trump threatened to declare a national emergency over 5 billion dollars for an imaginary wall....meanwhile Immigration courts are at a standstill and the TSA's mission is compromised.]

No, that would be totally outside Mueller's purview - he is limited to investigating crimes associated with the Russian interference in the 2016 election. He is not investigating Individual 1; that is for Congress or other courts to do.

But on that subject, his grand jury, which was due to expire 1/4/2019, has been granted an extension by the court overseeing it (heh, heh, heh).

Important to note is that he didn't win the popular vote, so neither he nor his campaign claims were supported by the majority of Americans.

I think that's an important distinction to appreciate before holding the country hostage until he can get his own way which, again, was not wanted by the majority of Americans.

I don't think so, I think the checks and balances are there for the Congress as well. The Supreme Court has already reigned him him somewhat on his immigration policy, grudgingly he edited the laws he made by executive authority to where it complied with normative Constitutional reach for a President. Trump can't keep the government shut down, only the Congress. They have been pretty anemic the last two years but let's hope the new blood in Congress has a bipartisan spirit, polarization is what got us here.

....somewhere over in the Pentagon, they are scrambling to find a contingency plan for wall building.

Requirements: Build a "wall" according to the specifications of the President on any given day.
