He has as much experience as the current head. And he’s a doctor.
The current administrator started her career analysing Medicaid and Medicare in the OMB, then went on to work for Ways and Means where she helped write the ACA, followed by a stint at the CMS where she helped implement the ACA. She then went on to consult on health care policy at two different private companies. She has far more experience in this field then Dr. Oz does. And simply being a doctor doesn't give him any special insight on how to run Medicaid, Medicare and the ACA.

QFT -

Xavier Becerra has zero background in medicine.

Xavier Becerra is the head of HHS (for which Trump has nominated RFK, Jr - who also has no background in medicine).

ETA: not sure what a background in medicine has to do with administering a health insurance program though.

Oh, perhaps health insurance has some connections with - us - medicine and medical treatments?

Sort of like wondering what a background in programming has to do with IT management

But she has no experience running a health insurance system.

The CEO of a health insurance company isn't deciding who gets what treatments. I certainly wouldn't mind someone with medical experience being in charge, but that shouldn't be their only qualification.

Not really. Think a few steps up from that.

Fair - she only helped design, plan, budget for, and implement a national health insurance program. She didn't actually run it. Truly that pales in comparison to Dr. Oz's experience...doing brain surgery?

If you all want to keep moving the goalposts, let me know.

No goal posts have been moved. The question remains - why do you think Dr. Oz is a good choice for the position in light of his lack of experience running a health insurance system? That question has been answered for the current Director.

Health insurance determines how he gets paid. It has nothing to do with the practice of medicine.

Actually it's more like saying an environmental engineer is qualified to run QuickBooks because they used it to track and charge their billable hours.
But she has no experience running a health insurance system.
I would consider making sure something stays on budget, determining what policies are implemented and then making sure those policies are followed as new systems are being developed to all full under "running a health insurance system." Sure, she wasn't in the top slot, but she has a ton of experience specifically around Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA, the three main things CMS is responsible for. Dr. Oz's experience is that he maybe might have billed Medicare for payment at some point in his career?

And I said that the current director had not experience prior to getting the job. I don’t recall hearing complaints from either side.

Because, despite her lack of experience running a health insurance system, she had a wealth of related and relevant experience as detailed in previous posts that made her a good choice. As far as I'm aware, Dr. Oz does not have that same level of experience. So, why do you think that he is a good choice for the position?

Do you think he’s hiring a whole new staff?

Very possibly. Trump tried, during his last term but did it too late, and has promised this time to fire a lot of career civl service employees, after re-categorizing them as political positions. I seem to recall Trump's own plans stating he will do this on Day 1 this time, meaning a large portion of the staff -- particularly any type of supervisory position -- will likely be replaced with people who have no previous government experience and are hired largely because they are loyal to Trump.

Because it annoys the crap out of the Left.

I’m sure that will happen.
