Call me a communist socialist but I believe my political donations should not go to the business interests and properties of the person who is seeking my vote.

i mean its right from Conways mouth

Kellyanne Conway says 2020 election should've been a 'blowout' for Trump but his campaign squandered a $1.6 billion war chest. Millions went into merchandise and Trump properties.

He already gifted America during one presidential Cy. He continues to do it to hilarious and transparent effect hilarious.

And folks will consider him a great president as he stole their money.

Heh. This opens a barrel of worms, for more than one politician is alleged to have indulge in such.

Great. Where are these examples. I want to know.
You mean like this?
Or this? Stacey Abrams's failed and debt-ridden campaign paid for TikTok 'hype' house and 'swag' truck: Report

Oh: You must mean Canada. Didn't Martan Francoeur come under investigation? Of course, that was over how he allegedly solicited contributions. Just that that scandal with Canadian senators was over their expense account.

I don't have any sympathy for anyone who got grifted into giving him political donations.

Although, I'm inclined to disagree with the premise of restricting the use of the funding. People learn more from the consequences of bad decisions than they do from someone preventing them from making the bad decisions in the first place.

Are people getting roped into pyramid schemes and time shares getting grifted? Absolutely ...however, they'll learn more from that experience than they ever would by someone trying to legislate restrictions on pyramid scheme presentations.

I'm not sure who originally coined the quote, but it goes a little something like:

"In a free democratic system you get what you ask for, and deserve to get it good and hard"

George Will put it a little differently when he said:
"People should suffer the choice they made"

Personally? I'm happy that Trump grifted people. I'm happy that people can wake up, look in the mirror and realize "I gave that guy $500 and all I got was a red hat, a bumper sticker, and knowing that they paid $300k to buy copies of his son's book to give away at $2,000/plate fundraising dinners for the people he actually cared about"

Hopefully many won't make the same mistake next time and realize that actual substance is more important that "This guy's willing to say brash things about the people I don't like when others hold their tongue"

Conway claimed that Trump's campaign paid $300,000 on Junior's books. Is that grifting off his father's name?

:) lol sure ok. Maybe just maybe we should look into the one in office right now when it comes to money and donations.
That can be its own thread. This one is about the previous guy.

. then money from other countries. Just a thought.
Speaking of which - Donald paid more in income taxes to China than to America the first year he was in office. Is that concerning?

If you read the link:

Conway doesn't delve further into the specific strategic or spending mistakes the Trump campaign made.

Read a little further:

A large portion of the money was spent on advertising — about $490 million, according to the report.

Read a little further:

In other areas, the campaign spent millions of dollars on donor gifts and Trump properties. About $56 million was spent on campaign merchandise and donor gifts, ABC News reported.

Ok boys and girls get your calculators out.

56 million of 1.4 billion is a WHOPPING .04. That means the other 99.96 went to other areas of the campaign

I wonder sometimes if links are read.

So sorry 96% of the funds raised went to other parts of his campaign. I was off by 2.4%.

That is like collecting a dollar and complaining about four pennies
He loves his country so much that he willingly put 96% of other people’s money (that they gave him to use 100% of, in whatever way he saw fit), and you’re fine with that?

Okay. Good to know.

I've heard people complain over smaller percentages...

For instance, I remember a thread started on here a few months back where people were griping about Biden hosting his grand daughters wedding at the White House.

Yup, top donors often get swag bags at fund raisers. Even the Democrats do that.

Let’s review, Trump supporters donate big dollars, Trump campaign “saw fit” to use 4% of its budget to use as thank you’s to top Trump supporters.

The thanks you’s are,( gasp!), Trump merchandise and stays at Trump luxury properties.

How horrible!

Give me a break.

Did you know Trump also got TWO scoops of ice cream to everyone else’s one!

Maybe someone could start an ethics investigation

If a person cannot comprehend the difference between using donors funds as part of fundraising events and using tax payers money to hold a private event, I doubt it would be a productive conversation.

For a point of reference, all presidents and VPs (as well as major candidates for either position) always get secret service protection

Under 18 U.S.C. ' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.

So any private event either hosted by or attended by anyone who fits that criteria is "using tax payers money" in the form of secret service needing to be present and the time and resources required to secure the location...everything from a wedding at the white house lawn, to taking ones nieces and nephews out to Dave & Buster's for a birthday party. In that regard, opting to hold an event at the White House actually saves time and resources on the latter part as it's already a secured and strategically familiar location for Secret service rather than having to take days to familiarize themselves and secure all the entry points at an unfamiliar facility.

A better analogy for this would be if, in addition to the Wedding, Biden took a sizeable chunk of money, and used it to buy copies of his wife's book to hand out to every attendee (thereby "throwing a bone" to a relative who wouldn't have sold that many copies on their own)

But again, if you look at the my first post in this thread...I have no objections with what Trump did with the money. It's not me complaining about it, it's a conservative pundit. I didn't give him any money, so I don't care what he did with it...I think he should've wasted more of it on side-hustles. It would've helped a few more people see it for what it is.

Observation:

That is a whole lot of words to say you don’t care.

Have you thought about going into politics?
