Call me a communist socialist but I believe my political donations should not go to the business interests and properties of the person who is seeking my vote.

i mean its right from Conways mouth

Kellyanne Conway says 2020 election should've been a 'blowout' for Trump but his campaign squandered a $1.6 billion war chest. Millions went into merchandise and Trump properties.

He already gifted America during one presidential Cy. He continues to do it to hilarious and transparent effect hilarious.

And folks will consider him a great president as he stole their money.
Money should be entirely removed from campaigns, full stop. Run on C-span and other outlets. Re-run a series of speeches or debates over and over so everyone has a chance to see them, perhaps on youtube. Then we vote for the people with the best ideas, not those who raised the most money.

Yes, I absolutely can imagine it. It should be done.
It SHOULD be done I agree. But does it seem like the genie can get put back into the bottle?

I can't believe these are the same people who supported BLM.

Trump misused some funds did he?

I bet his donors feel cheated.
There's our big dollop of What Aboutism for the thread.

There have always been limits to what individual candidates for election are allowed to spend during campaigns in the UK. Most candidates' expenditure falls well short of the limit. This seems fair, preventing rich candidates 'buying' votes. All candidates are allowed a free leaflet delivered in the post in order to make their election statement to all voters.

We have been holding elections for a very long time and this rule was first applied when votes were actually bought, often by the supply of free beer or cider at the hustings conveniently before the show of hands.

Observation:

That is a whole lot of words to say you don’t care.

Have you thought about going into politics?

With regards to fact that certain things elected leaders do will cost an amount of money to tax payers (that, in the grand scheme of things, comes up to a relatively small amount)...while it's be nice to have a little more of my paycheck to take home, I've made peace with the reality.

As Ben Franklin said, nothing in this life is a sure thing except for death and taxes. Given that P's and VP's (and candidates for the positions) need to have protection (I think we'd all agree on that), and protection costs money, and it's not reasonable to expect that a politician will never attend a family function or get together with friends, there's no way to have a government without running the risk of some money getting spent in ways that some people don't think it should.

However, I think my pragmatic position on that is better than an inconsistent position of "rationalize when my side does it, get furious when the other side does"

Well, that is good to know. Here, they raise obscene amounts of money that could be better spent on good causes. Then they tend to run negative ads about the OTHER guy, instead of tell us what YOU bring to the table in terms of ideas. So over it. It needs to be stopped.

Somebody has to do it. Trump didn't need money for his first run. We see how he was demonized on all fronts even before elected. The system is entrenched that money changes hands. That has to stop.

What do you mean? He took money for sure. He tossed in about 65million of his own money but raised 330million. Still, only half of what Clinton raised.

He was demonized due to his behaviours but not to keep that system in place.

As a good first step, y'all just need to repeal Citizens United.

People donated to him, but he didn't need it. The system is very much entrenched and needs to be uprooted.

No argument on Citizens United, but removing all money from political campaigns solves that problem too.

But if he didn't need it, they why did he ask for it? Why is he selling funny looking NFTs
