Trinity Foundation's Christian Worldview Contest

The Trinity Foundation (founder John W. Robbins, not the most well-liked person) has launched its second Christian Worldview Essay Contest. It is open to young men aged 17 to 23 (which is judged by your age on January 1, 2006). The topic of the essay is the book Not What My Hands Have Done, by Horatius Bonar and Charles Hodge.

I thought that other young guns on here like me might be interested to hear about this.

No, no. Don't think like that at all! I'm nothing more than an idiot constantly torn between a dozen different views on a dozen different subjects. It is only by the grace of God that I know what little I know. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh. And as all things are ordained by the Lord, no one can know the outcome of the contest. I'm sure the competition will be stiff, yes. I do plan to enter, but that doesn't mean that what I submit will even be worth the paper it is written upon. If it be God's will, I pray that this endeavor would bring me closer to him and engender in me greater understanding and love in him and nothing more. I certainly do not desire the prize money for myself, nor would I keep it if graced with it.

I guess my point is that I encourage you to enter if you feel that it would be a fruitful pursuit! That is precisely why I posted this here. Maybe Andrew (Antman_05) would want to enter as well. I just wanted to let people know that it was out there if they were interested in the challenge and the opportunity to apply the knowledge that God has given them.

Actually, I might enter if I had the time to devote to it. I won't let my great respect for your abilities scare me away. It would be a pretty good learning experience for me as well (and learning is the one thing I am always doing yet can't seem to do enough of). Unfortunately, I am having enough of a time keeping up with my schoolwork. I've hardly had time to read books that have not been assigned to me by my professors.

I hear you on that count. For me, I have had to pretty much decide between learning the subject material in school or learning about God. As a result, my schoolwork has only be satisfactory. I place a secular education well below the knowledge of God. If I must choose between understanding humanities and algebra over againt understanding salvation and discipleship, I choose the latter. I simply fulfill my collegiate responsibilities and move onto my own private, Christian studies. I think these will be much more important in the long run, and that such a cirriculum is far more pleasing to God.

I am providentially blessed in that I do have time after my schoolwork is done to commit to such endeavors. It sounds like you are buried up to your neck in it. My prayers go out for you!

I praise God that he has not resigned us to be young lions full of pride, but made us sheep, humble and meek.

(Though I do struggle with pride, I am ever sensitive to conviction by the Holy Spirit, for which I am very thankful.)

I would be more than happy to make my work available to any who wish to read it. It will probably be a treatise on (1) the modern view of justification (undoubtedly with a section on Perspectivalism and the Federal Vision), (2) the historical (read: Reformed) view of justification, and (3) exegesis of the biblical view of justification. There will then be a section for compare and contrast between (1 & 3) and (2 & 3), with comments and observations, followed by a reconciliation of this with the view presented by the book.
