• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Bible says we can add years onto our life. There are people who live past 100.

10The length of our days is seventy years—
or eighty, if we have the strength;
yet their span is but trouble and sorrow,
for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

Proverbs 3(NKJV)

Guidance for the Young

3 My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
2 For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.

Long life for some may not be as long as for others. The little girl died that Jesus rose from the dead, how long was that? We may live long if we live right, but one should not think that is a rule. Those that get raptured may not be so old. Enoch wasn't so old, for his day, and it wasn't for lack of being close to God, quite the opposite. The martyrs did not have long lives either, again, not because they forgot His laws.

Jesus didn't have a long life!!!!!!!!! Keep the old proverbs in perspective.

Funny thing about Enoch -- Genesis makes the point that God raptured (for lack of a better term) him up to heaven directly, but neglects to mention anything else about his character -- including what he did to merit such an honor. Very strange...

Who cares? He walked with God. What more did you think was required...to be a holy pious non drinking, unmarried sinless saint of some sort?

Who cares?

Your theological curiosity is an inspiration to us all.

He walked with God.

probably would've lived longer had he taken up jogging.;)

Couldn't have hurt -- Everyone else whom God spoke to, who actually worked for him (as opposed to walked with him) and lived good righteous lives met Him the more traditional way...

It's just odd; that's all I'm saying. In fact, all of Genesis 5 is pretty odd... its only purpose is to list the generations between Adam and Noah; ten generations total, and Enoch is the seventh.

Now, my Biblical numerology is a little rusty, but don't the numbers 7 and 10 have some sort of special symbolic meaning?

Ah, here we go:

7 symbolizes spiritual perfection -- a remarkable coincidence if there's anything to this.

Hey, God picked the guy, whether you or I think it is clever to guess all the reasons matters not.

The miles traveled before going to be with God may have went by faster.

Not Elijah.

So? Maybe he had kids??

Noit where it is supposed to wave away reality and real folk.

Not really. It was planned. You thought His word was some hastily conceived nonsense?

..Looking at the different state in the Tribulation as I have done in this thread we can also say that the future is not present state. That leaves science representing a small fraction of the big picture.

So once again you assume that your beliefs are true and use that to bias the evidence.

Ultimately believers trust God for eternal life. As far as what we prefer here, or have faith for, or choose good or not so good, that is not the measure of 'putting faith in God'. Sometimes we can't judge the little things. Maybe someone is too proud to admit that maybe God's will might be to have a person come home to heaven, rather than healed for the 20th time up on a stage or something. God can and does heal. But sometimes the answer to our prayer is...no.

Funnily enough, I get the same results when I pray to my toaster.

You aren't very convincing.

God did not fail. He provided a simple medical treatment. The parents failed to take advantage of the treatment God provided for them.

Seems to me that God could have done more to show the parents what his wishes were. I mean, he did that kind of stuff all the time in the Bible. Why doesn't he do it today?

Oh, we would like to be spoiled. We would like for God to do everything for us. But that is not the way it is. He expects us to do our part. This is called covenant theology. IF we do our part then we can be sure that God will do His part of the covenant.

Yeah. I want my child to go on living. But that's spoiling me, isn't it?

God did not fail the little girl. She is much better off with Him. God did not fail the parents. They failed God. You can blame God if you want but sooner or later you got to grow up and accept responsibility.

If she is better off with God, why did her parents pray for her to get healed at all?

I knew a girl who had parents that died in an auto accident when she was 12 years old. She blamed God and was mad at God for taking her parents away from her. Even when her brother got married she would not go to church because she was mad at God. Then I explained to her John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." She is now happy and content and a part of a community church that has become very important to her. She has learned how to be comforted by God. I can not remember her age at the time. But I am pretty sure it was her late 20's or early 30's. I am glad that she did find peace with God.

Good for her. What does that have to do with children dying from easily curable diseases when their parents choose to use prayer only?

I use God's word to unbias the religious twaddle you pour on evidences put before you.
Funnily enough, I get the same results when I pray to my toaster.
Great. Maybe ask it to prove a same state past, or tell you the laws in the tribulation.

God always answers prayer. Often the answer is no.

It seems to me that such old age is a result of medical care and science, not religion.

God's greatest letdown has always been his fan club.
I am a big disappointment to everyone. I just got to do the best I can with what I have to work with.

Read John 14:12 and ask yourself if you fit the bill.
As far as I am concerned I do. There are others scriptures you could have picked that I am not doing as well.

Let me save you the time: not even close.
That is your opinion. We will know soon enough when we go before Jesus and our works are judged. Not that it really matters because He has done so much more for us then we have done for Him. That is WHY we will throw our crowns or rewards at His feet. We could do nothing apart from Him.

10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne,
and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power:
for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Oh, I see I've picked the right one. All I see on this board and elsewhere are Christians trying to prove their superiority to non-Christians -- I doubt such pettiness and one-upmanship is what Jesus had in mind.

And yet he said you would do more -- I don't see many Christians even bothering to try.

Hey, God picked the guy, whether you or I think it is clever to guess all the reasons matters not.

Now now -- just because you don't want to think about it is no reason to dismiss the ones who do.

The miles traveled before going to be with God may have went by faster.
For that to work, he would've had to have done something pretty special in order to merit the taking. Again, the Bible doesn't bother to give so much as a hint; he's just one in a long list of throwaway names.

Not Elijah.
Indeed -- the forerunner of the prophetic tradition and archetype for Jesus does deserve special treatment, doesn't he?

So? Maybe he had kids??
"Maybe"? ^_^ Are you actually reading the chapter?

I'd say we're pretty well beyond "maybe."

Noit where it is supposed to wave away reality and real folk.
Ok, so you're saying the numbers have no meaning here...

Not really. It was planned. You thought His word was some hastily conceived nonsense?
And now you're suggesting they do. Would you kindly pick a line of blather and stick with it?

There's a simple explanation here -- you won't like it, but it explains everything in this entire throwaway chapter.

Not sure of your point? You think Japan is the model?

Given how they're living, on average, about 5 years longer than the US, it might bear some looking into.

Yes the teachings of Jesus was we are to be servant to all. So we seek to be the least. If we are invited to someones house we are to sit on the foot stool and leave the more comfortable seating for others. As a sign of our humility before God. We are told the last shall be first and the first shall be last.

And yet he said you would do more -- I don't see many Christians even bothering to try.
Jesus went about teaching, preaching and healing.
So I would imagine that is the work we are to do.
Maybe we do to much preaching and not enough healing.

Thinking does not equal mouthing dark baseless accusations.

Says you. God will have mercy upon whom He will have mercy. Not by works of righteousness which we have done....

Your modus operandi seems to be accuse the saints and avoid the truth, and try to make God out a liar.

Kids...consider the source!
