Transportation for 80+ Age Relative to Specialist Surgeon Appointment Tomorrow Friday

This may be small compared with other prayer requests, but extremely important that this cataract surgery in both eyes gets done to maintain a future quality of life for an aged female relative. Her ophthalmologist surgeon well rated and experienced (no malpractice suits) is in a medical office building (and good doctors of that specialty are hard to find) that has poor parking, so poor that can circle the parking lot up to around 15 minutes or more to find a good parking spot which lot is on hilly terrain. Though can drop her off at the front door by car, leaving her that long unattended is not a good idea with other medical conditions. Her pre-op appointment with the surgeon is tomorrow Friday. Between this appointment, the two eye surgeries at the same location, and at least three appointments following the two eye surgeries, have no other neighbor, relative, or friend nearby who can step in to provide transportation for both of us for all 6+ appointments between now and mid April and that is assuming everything goes right. So plenty of Ubers and Lyfts with a variety of cars in our area, but problem is she has a hurry-roll walker which when folded is 36 x 28 x 16 inches. Last visit to the same doctor, we got two Ubers/Lyfts that would have fit that, but not knowing took her more compact walker which does not provide her as much stability but doable. Uber WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) is available in our area, but in research average 15-20 minute waits in our metro area (though we are out in the suburbs) with 90% of requests fulfilled in 30 minutes whereas normal Ubers and Lyfts within 5-10 minutes, but not want to risk a WAV vehicle in getting timely TO a critical medical appointment. Proactively will send a text to the Lyft or Uber driver letting them know of the large walker and its size, which offering the driver the chance to hand off the ride to another driver if they know their smaller car trunk will not fit the large walker. If a driver who shows up and trouble getting the large walker in, will have her smaller walker in the car trunk 20 feet away in the driveway and the larger walker if so cannot use fits in there. Also have a Lyft Wait Time charge waiver previously approved for such trips. Besides that, praying also the appointment at the opthamologist surgeon office goes well midday tomorrow Friday.

Do you have a Metro Access in your city? They have large multi-person vans with wide lifts for easy access. And they are infinitely cheaper than Uber. Don't know if they service the suburbs, but might be worth checking out.

Something that seriously considered. Having nearby friend who uses it, if at building with multiple entrances and GPS challenges, her greatest frustration causing pickup delays is must call the Metro Access call center and cannot communicate directly with the driver about it. Uber WAV you can, but pickup timeliness in OP which not an issue in not so time sensitive return trips from medical. Also in the DC/MD/VA market 20% cut in Metro Access service area come July 1 especially affecting outer suburbs where at (transit agency $750M budget deficit next fiscal year). Application process is a couple weeks or more and must go into DC for their doctor interview. And shared Access rides with 2-3 passengers higher risk catching COVID and viruses, not good with older relative's compromised immune system even with all vaccines. Looked to Above for Revealed Guidance also, not right for situation now, but Metro Access may work for others in different health and cities.

Prayer update from yesterday - Had a close 7 star excellent Lyft driver to the appointment yesterday, her pre-op discussion with the surgeon went well, and rest of the day from that went quite good. Thanks!

She to go to her primary doctor's office next week for a pre-op physical which prayerfully will go good. More updates about the cataract surgery needing much prayer with an additional laser procedure needed with a few risks with the first eye of two scheduled for later this month to open up in a new prayer thread soon.
