In order to increase the revenue stream, practitioners sought to establish "transgender feelings" as a treatable disease. Thus, the recent DSM revisions and the invention of the phrase "gender assignment". With established diagnoses and treatments, the insurance companies were compelled to provide coverage. Voila, we now have a substantial revenue stream for both practitioners and hospitals.
As I read the literature, the diagnosis of GD does not require a single objective test, only the patients subjective input. How many invasive surgeries are performed without a single objective lab test or imaging procedure that supports the diagnosis?
