  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Stupid Titanic!

My thought's exactly--can't believe it beat out Star Wars (in my opinion one of the best movies of all time.) I HATE Titantic, with a passion. I was probably the only one laughing when Jack died. "I'll never leave you!!!" -Then what does he do? He dies!!!

Movies I haven't seen:7, 11, 17, 19, 22, 26, 28, 29, 31, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 45,46,47, 49, 50. In my opinion, there are a lot of great movies that didn't make it and some pathetic ones that did. I just noticed the ranking of ROTK-Return of the King. I didn't realize it went up that far. Is it still in the theater? I'd be nice if it got to be number one.

Those I have not seen:

10 The Passion of the Christ Feb 04 NewMarket 330.9
22 The Matrix Reloaded (including 2003 Imax) May 03 Warner Bros. 281.5
35 Ghostbusters Jun 84 Sony 238.6
36 Beverly Hills Cop Dec 84 Paramount 234.8
38 The Lost World May 97 Universal 229.1
42 Ghost Jul 90 Paramount 217.6
46 X2: X-Men United May 03 Fox 214.9
50 Terminator 2 Jul 91 Sony 204.8

Of those, I will only watch numbers 10 and maybe 35 and maybe 46 before I die.

So many films on the list that don't deserve to be there. And there are so many fantastic films that are overlooked because they contain few special effects. The best movies are not those drenched in special effects, that's for sure.

Titanic blows Star Wars out of the water. How many acadamy awards did that movie get? And how many did Star Wars get?

Special Effects doesn't make the movie, but they do help.
The reason why so many movies are in the top 50, that do have alot of special effects, is because they are best viewed in the theater.
Take a movie like "On Golden Pond". I think it took, movie of the year, and best actor, but it had no special effects. Those movies you can watch at home, but with the special effects, its best to watch in the theater.

As you may already have noticed most TV shows, Music, and Movies are created with one thing in mind; the dollar of the young female with discretionary income to burn.

So, overall, I own 21/50 of the movies on this list, and will buy a number of them when they come on on dvd. That's kinda sad huh.

Oh and btw, it is called "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in the U.S.
