  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Toothpick bridge hobby

Does anyone here make toothpick bridges? or is it just me. I construct these bridges out of toothpics and then i test them until they break. they are delicately done, and most of the time they can hold anywhere from 200 - 500 times their own weight. Does anyone do anything close to this? i know that i have heard of people who make things out of match sticks...but i wanted to know if anyone did something like this. Also, i know this sounds like a totally stupid hobby, and that i have no life by doing this...but...yeah what can i say, i get bored easily, and so i challenge myself to do random things that test my intellect....that or i pull pranks.

when i read the post i almost thought it was a prank, but i thought about it and realized that engineers and architects do stuff like that. I remember my friend was studying to be an architect and he always made these amazing models of structures that defied gravity. he made em out of balsa wood and foam core on i think plywood. They were nice studies because they showed how the structures could conform to the shape and layers of the land.
Ive always respected model building. havent made a model in years though. I remember my bro an i made this huge model of a b-29 bomber and we let it hang in our room with the atomic bomb dropping from it. The closest thing i can recall right now building as an engineering study would probabley be sand castles. Some of Leonardos sketches had some nice engineering studies.
