  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not to mention the issues in the article itself. Double-counting the cost of universal health care, for one. Forgetting that we're already paying for health care today - and pretending that current cost wouldn't go away if the source of funding moved - is another.

And the citation that supports that claim is where?.....otherwise it is just opinion

see #118....

We do not need a citation to point out the errors in the article you linked either. Seriously, this is starting to look more and more like you are unable to deal with the most basic of refutations.

Nope, not in the slightest. I was expecting more attempts to make the discussion about me rather than actually addressing the content of what I posted. So zero surprise.

From what I can tell, Obama had two separate things going on: a deportation program focused on criminals, and Operation Streamline. I believe Operation Streamline was supposed to be focused on border crossing, while the priority on criminals was focused on people who had been in the country for a while. This separation was not complete, of course. Streamline was started under Bush but greatly expanded under Obama.

Warren seems to have promised to reinstate the focus on criminals for deportation and stopping Streamline. Stopping Streamline doesn't mean stopping enforcement of the border, but it would depend upon what replaces it.

The poster I was replying to was saying something about "she wants to go back to Obama era policies". That's not true. She wants to end a successful program that deported tens of thousands under Obama. What's worse is she's lying about it under Trump and characterizing it as some racist policy....which it isn't.

As for "what replaces it"....it's obvious....nothing. She already stated she doesn't want it to be a criminal offense to cross the border. She wants to scrap it and replace it with open borders.

I think border enforcement and deportation of people who have been in the country is always going to be somewhat separate. The hope is to prevent all illegal border crossing. It doesn't appear to be practical to deport all undocumented aliens currently in the country, hence prioritization is needed.

How exactly does one prevent illegal crossings if you can't detain them once they get in?

Let's be honest....she isn't planning on expanding ICE and their abilities. She isn't planning to build a big wall lol. She's planning to gut the agencies responsible for enforcing the law, or at least hamper them, and make it basically impossible to enforce what little laws remain. She doesn't even want student visa overstays deported.

With Warren's plan....just come on in. The worst thing to happen is we'll tell you it's wrong.

Open borders.

We have amply supported our position that your numbers are incorrect.
Without a citation to support your assertion we will have to agree to disagree......

Trump's own properties have long hired illegal immigrants. One of his wineries just fired several ------ after the harvest.

Deportations lower under Trump administration than Obama: report

President Obama focused more on deporting criminals, whereas Trump has deported working ppl while not penalizing those who've knowingly hired the workers.

Were you under the impression that Trump lives by his political dogma?

I'm young but I wasn't born yesterday. So no. I've never been duped by Trump's duplicity or bought up his propaganda.

Maybe Trump needs to pick it up a little?
M-Bob

Yes, Trump definitely needs to pick it up a little & learn from President Obama. The focus should be on deporting criminals. Trump has not only refused to prosecute those who hire illegal workers knowingly, he's rewarded them. His own properties have long hired illegal immigrants. Republicans pushed for an increase in the number of visas given to low skill labourers who will work more cheaply than Americans even though visa overstays are the major cause of illegal immigration.

Considering the 12 million or more illegals in the U.S., it would seem that the border has already been out of control for many years and under both the Dems and the Repubs.

Washington hasn’t been serious about controlling the borders of the US since the 1965 Immigration act passed. Then someone ran from President proposing to actually do something about it. Despite a having no experience, it won him the White House.
