Judaism really has the same problem as Hinduism: it is tolerant until a Jew wishes to become a Christian. Jewishness is said to be a national identity, but it would appear that becoming a Christian is the one thing that a Jew can do to cease being a Jew. Many Jews I've met consider it blasphemous to even say or write the name of Jesus, instead using "J," "J-man," or the most virulent, "You Know Who." I'm not saying that any religious group is under any obligation to be tolerant. But is this what you would call a tolerant religion?

Well, is not contempt towards apostasy something of a universal vice? Contempt towards apostasy doesn't only include hating the apostate, but also belittling the former faithfulness of the apostate. I've seen members of pretty much every religion in existence "explain away" apostasy by claiming that the apostate never really belonged to their religion, or knew it poorly.

Yes, most religious people do hold contempt for apostasy. My point isn't that they ought not to do this, but that Judaism ought not to be portrayed as a tolerant faith when Jews have the same contempt for apostasy as Christians and Muslims (perhaps moreso than Christians).

What do you think tolerance means, exactly? Because in the same breath you seem to be complaining that other religions aren't being tolerant...in a most judgmental and intolerant fashion.

Religions and beliefs aren't tolerant or intolerant. People are.

He just has a grudge against Hinduism. He's trying to justify his conversion by hating Hinduism, rather than loving Jesus. He's an ex-hindu btw... Most of his posts depict hate of Hinduism, rather than focusing on Christ, which his doctrine tells him to.

I'm sorry that I didn't provide enough information in my last post. By no means am I complaining that other religions are intolerant, for indeed I am intolerant by my own admission. My complaint is that the two religions I mentioned falsely claim to be tolerant. My objection isn't to the intolerance, but to the denial thereof.
That seems more reasonable. However, I still contend that people are tolerant or intolerant, not religions. There are tolerant Christians and intolerant Christians, and each can draw upon Christianity to defend their position. I have found that the same is true of all faiths, and I have been to interfaith events with Hindus and Jews and found those with which I have spent time to be most accommodating toward members of other religious beliefs. I also contend they don't all believe the same things.

The psychologist in T.S. Eliot's "The Dinner Party" recognized: "Half of the evil in this world is caused by people caught up in the endless quest to think well of themselves."

God's Book; the Holy Quran says:-

60: 8. Allâh does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allâh loves those who deal with equity.

Thw Quran also says to kill the infidel where you see them, and not to make friends with non muslims.

And in the Bible, God tells the Jews to kill unbelievers, take their land, enslave their peoples, and rape the women.

People choose what to focus on in religion, and what to explain away as unimportant. Some Muslims are violent, and others are peaceful. Some Christians are violent (look at Northern Ireland), and others work for peace.
