CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Today i will be doing more homework and also think I will go ask my neighbour to help me with my knitting as my mum cant. I started this baby jacket about five years ago and still havent finished. Today might be the day I finally finish!

TODAY I spent an hour with others to say farewell to a vibrant old man, who (together with his brothers) was a distinguished child actor in Hollywood during its Golden Age. Billy Watson grew up in a home next door to the fledgling MGM studio. While playing with his brothers in their parking lot, a movie mogul approached them, asking, "Hey kids, do you wanna be in pictures?" They agreed, thus beginning their long acting careers.
As a pastor, I conducted a combination potluck dinner and movie discussion night one Friday a month. The most memorable of these was the night we showed the 1934 flick, "The Little Minister," starring Katherine Hepburn in one of her first movie roles. At age 24, she looked so much younger than in her more famous roles in the 1940s. Billy (age 10) played the distraught son of a drunken father. The elderly Billy had personal letters from Katherine, who was normally very private and inaccessible to the public. But she regarded Billy as her son! When Billy entered an emotional movie scene, the crowd shouted for a replay, when it was over. I should have thought of that! It was so dramatic to wait for Billy's scenes. His 10-year-old acting self seemed so vibrant and energized in contrast to his witty elderly version. I have never experienced a more potent metaphor of aging!
Billy's commentary focused on what it was like to make movies with Hollywood's legendary actors and actresses. For example, he also had a child's role in Jimmy Stewart's famous movie, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." He lamented the fact, that though Katherine Hepburn performed so well in her roes as a nun or a devout Christian, in real life she made it clear that she was an atheist. I'll miss Billy's reminiscences on his pioneering Hollywood days.
