This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. —Psalm 118:24

As the day unfolds we encounter numerous opportunities to give thanks. God has blessed us with the breath of life. May we celebrate His goodness in scripture, songs, images, and personal expressions which demonstrate our gratitude for all He's done.

Yours in His Service,

~Bella

Funny you should mention that topic. Been struggling a bit with it. I do have things to be grateful for. There is this young Coptic priest I'm especially thankful for. He does lots of really good sermons on spiritual direction, self help type topics and useful doctrinal stuff where he has attracted a lot of attention outside of the Coptic Church from various kinds of Protestants and other folks who listen to his online sermons.

Anyway he mentions somewhere in the middle of this presentation about gratitude how it fights depression etc. And the sermon is a favorite one to give out for Christians going through rough times and I think it was one of his best presentations as far as strong needed message. And that message, or more precisely keeping a gratitude journal was something the ancient stoics practiced, especially emperor Marcus Aurelius. And I have been getting more into that form of applied philosophy.

Well I'm thankful that I got my big Eminent Domain check today. FYI - I was forced out of my low cost duplex in North Carolina so they could put in road and utility improvements. It was actually much more *2.4 x bigger) than I was expecting! OF course, my new problem, a "1st World" problem is having trouble depositing it. (bank closed, folded it making auto teller out of question, which leaves with the smart phone app and maybe getting rid of some malware). But I will gladly take that kind of problem....

And speaking of Fr. Anthony he has had a number of series on Joy and Happiness. "Makarios" is one of the major terms for being blessed/happy. It is the kind of satisfaction that finds joy in the midst of life regardless of the events and problems etc. As opposed to just being "happy" because good events are happening where our joy depends on good events happening in the outside world.

But saying that, it is really good when occasionally get those good event pay offs every once in a while. :)

Congratulations! God is good. When do you move?

I actually moved last December, and hit lots of problems moving from one state to the next. Even with lots of simple things like getting a drivers licence. It was enough to make me reconsider why I moved. I kind of felt like I needed to as far as stagnating, not getting ahead. Did lots of praying, and even felt that probably God was nudging me to leave. But there was a lot of things on the short term, where it looked like I would have been better off staying in NC, at least for the short term. That was some of the reason why I was bummed out before. The check though is the first big turn events where that sort of thing is finally starting to be reversed.

How are your studies coming along? What are you focusing on now?

Well I got side tracked. I actually had to go out to California to deal with a problem, before the Corona virus really hit. And I ended up spending 3 months there with my folks. It sort of was like a giant vacation / spiritual retreat out in the Scott's Valley area (In between the "Silicon Valley" tech are and the beach area of Santa Cruz.)

It's very scenic with redwoods, pine trees, and mountains etc.

I bet it was tranquil. :)

It's was pretty nice for being in a retirement park. :)

I bet it was tranquil. :)

lol tranquil not so much, my mom likes to blast cable news (so she can hear it over the heater, or various kitchen appliances.) But that is why God created porches, lap top computers, and the ability of the Introvert to tune out the environment.

But it was kind of neat at times. I suppose the devotional project I was most serious about is maybe doing expository teaching on various Bible passages. And I was looking at that Psalm of ascents that goes "I lift up my eyes to the Hills, from whence comes my help". And well over the roofs of various prefab buildings and trailers are some pretty majestic hills. And sometimes there were other things like some eagles or hawks that liked to ride the air currents around in between 10 am and noon.

While over there, I got a kick from my dad. Always thought he was an INTJ like me but maybe a little more sociable, but I think he's an ENTJ who can just spend a lot of time alone focused on his various special projects. Anyway it is fun to see him in his later years schmooze people. Everybody knows who he is in his retirement park, at his large Lutheran church, at the Costco he shops at twice a week.... And sometimes all that schmoozing does pay off e.g. both my parents have issues getting all their medications for all their different problems, and sometimes need handicapped services etc.
