Unless she's into snakes. Although I might have second thoughts about going on a date with a woman who kept snakes...

What the heck are "extra-Biblical traditions"? The Jews have the original stories. And why do you believe that they weren't particularly reliable? How do you show evidence of this?

I guess I could see how a guy would think they wanted a Ruth...a woman who works hard without drawing attention to herself and then crawls in your bed when you aren't looking. Though she wasn't a virgin and a lot of guys here have that on their "must have" list. Again, I don't find that particularly romantic...it is seems to be a marriage of convenience. Nor do I find it romantic that he left her extra remnants after the harvest to work and toil for instead of romancing her with the first fruits of his harvest. He could have even provided for her out of his first fruits as a kinswoman and not even as a romantic jesture. Instead, he just says "leave a bit extra for her to pick up." Again, I don't really want a Boaz...that would be such a let down. I think there are plenty of Boazes...well, not necessary wealthy ones but men who would marry for the conveniences that it brings.

I love snakes in a relative sense..... I mean I'm still 100x scared of any spider bigger than a quarter than a 5 ft snake!

I don't know but "weird" seems good these days... I might actually find such woman interesting as long as she can love me more than her snakes!

Sometimes spiders scare me and I want help, but I can't even look at pictures of snakes. Those things freak me out.

We're going way off topic here, but I used to work with someone who kept snakes, and I think she might have even bred them. I'm not sure why, but there was one occasion where she brought one of her snakes to the office. It spent the whole time in its cage/box, but it did still cause quite a bit of consternation.

It looks like we're the opposite. I used to catch garden snakes when I was little, with my bare hands. Spiders on the other hand, looks so alien and evil!

when I was about four years old I was obsessed with little green lizards. I thought I found one that was big, and I grabbed it and took it to my mother. It was really a grass snake. She freaked out. I wasn't allowed to play with lizards anymore. I blame her for my fear of snakes.

The Bible wasn't written down either. The Jewish stories are the original stories...since my faith in the Bible doesn't depend on the age of Boaz, it just becomes a historical point. Do you have a better source for the age of Boaz or Ruth? The Torah survived the same way the Old Testament did, through memorized stories past from generation to generation...and in fact, the Old Testament came from the same Jewish sources as the Torah because there were no Christians before Christ.

Honestly, I am guess that every Bible lesson you have had had some extra Biblical info because we use other historical sources when we teach Sunday School or Bible lessons. In fact, English is an extra Biblical addition since English didn't exist when the Torah or the Bible were written down.

However, my faith does depend on knowing the age of Boaz.....I simply find historical sources that give more details to be interesting. And I do believe the Jewish people have taken their faith seriously enough that their sources are usually the best ones for the Biblical stories anyway.

Well, it was, that's the point. While the date of composition of some books is disputed, what we call the Old Testament existed in written form at least several centuries before Christ.

Some Jewish stories were invented long after the Old Testament was written. And these stories do not always agree: One medieval Jewish tradition tells us that Boaz was sterile before meeting Ruth, another that he had had 60 children.

It would be nice to find my Boaz. I guess the importance of this discussion is not about Boaz as a person but finding the man that will be with you as Boaz was with Ruth. Though I thought it was hilarious when you said

as I am not yet prepared to lay at a man's feet in the middle of the night and I am pretty sure my mother would not advise me too even if the outcome was marriage and a child.

But I digress, the point is that a husband/wife should not be about a long list of trivial desires but a real desire to place your trust and love into someone knowing that it is God's will in your life and their's.
