I was watching TV the other day ... kind of ... it was on for background noise as I was crocheting... and I there was a talkshow type program on, "the view" I think .. and they were talking about things they do at Christmas time... and one of the ladies said that last year she pulled in the mail and said to her husband "look... ohmygosh a $20 bill!" and was thinking how cool it was, and her husband said.. "yeah, I left it for the mailman for Christmas."

I think that's a nice gesture, but I've never heard of anyone doing this... and I personally can't afford to hand off a 20 dollar bill, but I'm thinking of doing this too, however putting it in a Christmas card with a bible verse in it or something so that it's known that I'm doing it in the spirit of CHRISTmas.

Do any of you do this or anything similar?

just curious...

im a paper carrier, getting up every morning around 7 isnt great, now i have to get up at 6am though...i walk for around an hour in the snow (that can be waist high) in the cold (got -45 to -54 here sometimes). it's alot of work and getting 13.5 cents a paper id rather sleep in. but i still deliver them...

if i really wanted the money, i wouldnt stay delieverying papers...its just nice. money doesnt really matter (im living at home though and get everything paid for...). a simple card is so nice though. i raley see ppl on my route. cant really talk to them at 6:30...i never really know if they realizes what i do. a card is one of the nicest things you can get. its not really the card that matters, its the thought.

i encourage you to get a card. may sounds bumd but -30, it sure warms you up. christmas though? you give flowers to your girlfriend all the time. what about your mail carrier? (i mean a card, not flowers... :) )

Yes, a card would be good for the thought that counts, certainly. I sure appreciate our paper carrier, and what would we do without our mornings paper with our coffee? We do appreciate your efforts, and glad you enjoy what you do. ^_^ God bless you!!

Tipping the mailman seems strange, yet I believe tipping in America is expected when you go out to eat.

If someone is drawn to tip, then it is ok.....but not under obligation because everyone else does it. Giving must come from the heart or God does not see that as giving at all.
