Here is my time machine. Step in and type in your date. Where are going going to and why? Who do you wanna meet?

I'm going to 17th and 18th century Edinburgh. In the 17th century I'd want to meet Deacon Brodie...the man Stevenson based Jekyll and Hyde on. Brodie wasn't a bad man though. Respectable by day and....mischevious...shall we say, by night. I'd also like to see (not speak to) George McKenzie. A man responsible for the deaths of 1500 protestants in Edinburgh. He is to this day a hated figure in history.

I love 18th century Edinburgh because it's so dark. I hang out in Edinburgh a lot and love to imagine what it must have been like, living in disgusting conditions amid massive overcrowding. Knowing that one day I'd end up in a graveyard so full, people were specially employed to crush the bodies down. They even had to bring in more soil because they was more bodies than dirt. The graveyard nowadays is way above the level of the street below. It has only a few hundred gravestones, but an estimated 250,000 corpses.

I'd love to see exactly what life was like back then...in those conditions.

A word of caution on the subject of time travel. This was the incident that led to the fromation of the 'campaign for real time' many yaears ago.

In a distant part of the galaxy, on a world greatly more advanced than our own, and where time travel was commonplace, stood the great cathedral of Balzink.

The cathedral had stood for thousands of years, but was finally demolished to make way for a new photon drive factory. As with most large building projects, problems and delays occurred frequently. In order to avoid the huge penalty clauses in the contract, the builders used time travel to move the start of the building back in time so as to complete it on the scheduled date.

Unfortunately, the delays where so common, and the start date moved so far back in time, that eventually the great Cathedral of Balzink was never built in the first place.

Picture postcards of the cathedral suddenly became immensley valuable.

This caused such outrage that the campaign for real time was set up to stop this gratuitous mucking around in time and space.

Thats my story. If I were to travel in time, I would want to meet the Parisi people, the Celtic tribe who lived in the area I now live in up to Roman times.

Rome, 400 AD. I'd like to know if Rome was really a Christian Empire at the time of its fall. So many Christians insist that America will be judged by God because of its un-Christian ways, and they overlook the fact that Rome rose as a Pagan Nation, and fell as a Christian one.

Also, Ancient Egypt. Wanna see how they built the pyramids.

Late 18th and early 19th century in the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland. Why would I want to go there of all places. Market hunting, the ability to make a living, hunting ducks on the bay with a myriad of techniques that are illegal today, ie. punt and battery guns, sinkboxes, etc.

I would like to go back to see the fall of the Han Dynasty in the period known as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, maybe meet Guan Yu. I also find Rome to be interesting and of high standard of living, but it is a bit too immoral for me. I would also like to go back and meet Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.

Date: early 10th century
Place: Somewhere near Afghanistan

I am a mighty Hindu King who is going with a powerful Indian Army to launch a pre-emptive attack on the barbaric Muslim Chieftain who is threating to invade my country and plunder her wealth. Utilizing a splendid military strategy, the Indian army smashes the Muslim mercenaries once and for all. I am then jumping back on the time machine having ensured that India will not be enslaved under the tyranny of Muslims for 7 centuries. After I come back, to my utter disappointment, I find out that the Indian army never invaded Afghanistan and let the Muslims come and destroy 30,000 temples and hurt the Indian psyche.

I would go back to meet Martin Luther. If you ever get the chance to read his table talk, do so. It's absolutely fascinating, and the chance to stay up with him on a nightly basis and just talk about God and theology in such depth... wow.
And then I'd skip on over to England and be like "Elizabeth! Don't worry about the politics! Just appoint Melanchton Archbiship of Canturberry! You memorized the Augsburg, now do it!!"

How strange would it be to go to an important historical figue and say "Don't do this..."
Woder just how different life would be if somone had gone back and convinced hitler not to run for chancellor. Butterfly beats it's wings in one place and causes a tidal wave elsewhere kinds thing. It'd be so weird if the massive decisions made in history were made in the opposite direction.

Forest-dwelling and flightless
Waded in ponds to catch fish
Killed by sailors for extra food
Ship animals stole its eggs

Then forward to 1690 and the island of Mauritious to prevent this fellow from becoming extinct.
