I have been guilty of making personal attacks during this debate. I'm sure many of you sympathize with my reasons: still, a reason is not always a justification, and in this case it is not.
I offer my apologies to Nick Petreley, a frequent participant in this board. Nick, I apologize for calling your credibility into question. I apologize for speaking derisively to and about you. You are aware, of course, that I strongly disagree with your position, and also with your habits of presentation. Nevertheless, my attacks on you were uncalled for. In the future, I will be sure to engage you in a civil and respectful manner if at all. I will limit my criticism to the points of argument or assertions of fact that you or others bring to this board.
In this way, I hope to avoid sullying my own credibility and to work toward a better standard of conduct in public discourse.
This does not mean that I will let a falsehood, deception, or contrivance go unanswered where such comes to my attention and it is in my power to answer it. It does mean that I will answer the point, not the point-maker.
My apologies to all on the board for my behavior in the past on this matter. If I should post something in the future that does not reflect the sentiments I express in this post, I hope that I will have it brought to my attention.
