Oh okay; she was from a different place!

So how does the place you go to now, compare with the place she came from? (Doctrine, dress codes, etc.)

Funny story actually. We met at my home church in middle GA, but she's from northwest GA. They are somewhat similar I suppose. Both lean toward liberalism and are American Baptist as opposed to Southern Baptist. Of the churches I've been to in the past, I'd say that my views are much more conservative than the church views, but the wife and I aren't willing to leave our current church because she's the youth director and making huge impacts with the kids. We'd rather ensure that liberal churches get to hear a conservative message with scripture reinforcement than get in a comfortable place ourselves. It's dangerous for us, but it's a risk we're willing to take. She has family on the payroll there as well, so leaving would only cause needless drama. I am very secure in my faith and theological views because I can back them up. I feel like when I walk into church with a Bible Im carrying a weapon. There's much more to these stories...but I gotta get back to work for a bit. :)

I see your situation more clearly now.

I guess, as far as the relationship between you guys and the other folk in the local church is concerned, Amos 3.3 is generally relevant: "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"

haha good verse! I wish I could say that my theology and my wife's are in agreement but she was raised in the liberal church and for a long time accepted what she was fed. After she and I went through much of the Bible she is coming around, but its not easy to let go of much of the errant teaching from your childhood and accept a book rather than the preacher's words.

I guess I was referring more to your relationship between the liberal church and you, really.

As far as other matters are concerned, seems like things such as dress codes, music, etc., which often become issues, are not so significant for you guys in your church situation.

My relationship is with the youth mainly since that's where we are most involved.

Dont get me wrong...it's still a baptist church! People dress okay (I believe Jesus doesn't care what you wear, but at the same time let's dress appropriately for public outings) and the music is still hymns. I more have issue with liberal parents letting their children lay out on the pews, letting them make their own decisions whether to go to children's church or not, OR even come to church AT ALL, take naps during service, and generally act the fool. Drives the wife nuts. ^_^

Well, exactly!

I wonder how many people in the pew are more interested in having a comfortable time than they are in digging into God's Word.

...all they need is for someone to stand there and tell them that their sins are forgiven and they're saved...and dont forget to drop some twenties in the collection plate on your way out :o

Money can be such a curse. For the unbeliever there should be no obligation to give money or encouragement to do so, either. The public face of the local church should be the Gospel, and its inner reality also. Trying to prize people's money from them can bring a curse.

The cheerful, believing giver, who gives voluntarily, is another matter.
