I have always stood by the Defined King James Version. But also read from Young's Literal Translation and New American Standard Bible.
I hear the new English Standard Version is a pretty good translation. HCSB is supposed be pretty decent though they mussed up some verses I gather from reviews that made it genuinely cumbersome and wanting.
But look up Jay P Green Sr's Modern King James Version @ Sovereign Grace Publishers. Has a free online text of the complete Bible translation. New Testament available in softcover.
And Robert R Couric's KJ2000 (google). Also has a free online text of the complete Bible translation. Available in both softcover and hardcover.
I never dug dynamic equivalent translations or paraphrases because they can possibly reflect the translator's doctrinal beliefs thats another reason I dont care for study bibles either, I'd rather let the Holy Spirit open the word of God. I prolly wont read The Message. Hehehe!
