Was just reading Luke 1 and it suddenly dawned on me why the first 4 verses are there.

Luke 1:1-4
Most honorable Theophilus:
Many people have written accounts about the events that took place among us. They used as their source material the reports circulating among us from the early disciples and other eyewitnesses of what God has done in fulfillment of his promises. Having carefully investigated all of these accounts from the beginning, I have decided to write a careful summary for you, to reassure you of the truth of all you were taught.


Even those in the early church knew the importance of not just believing what you are told or taught. Investigate it for yourself, don't be afraid to question what you hear, delve into the Scriptures to determine for yourself the truth of what others say.

I wonder how many of us ever actually read that bit.

Or do we skip the intro and get right to the story itself?

And we perhaps forget that God put that bit there for a reason.
