  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

at least as compatible as preachers getting rich off of their membership, maybe more so because I don't think Kinkade specifically targets Christians

You are clearly not as cynical as I am. I am pretty sure he targets anyone he can find with money, and lots of friends. Christians are ideal.

Yes...pretty big job and thanks for your service...hope to see more of you!

I got a Kinkade calendar...that's prolly as close as I'll get to having his work in my home...I also got a puppies and kittens calendar...it was really hard to decide between the two...I mean...it's hard to get much better than puppies and kittens...:)

If 10% of US homes really contain this stuff, then Kinkade knows his market, and has targetted it effectively. I am intrigued by comments that his pictures remain expensive, though. Someone, somewhere is getting very, very rich at the expense of ordinary people. Is that really compatible with evangelical Christianity?
As long as no one is being harmed, yes. I fail to see how people are being harmed here. I know of no pressure to buy his (or any other) paintings for the sake of getting closer to God. If people like the paintings, they can buy them at whatever price seems fair to them and the seller. Successful business models do not necessitate cheating people or deceiving them.

I don't like Kinkade. His paintings are to art what candyfloss is to food.

No problem if you want candyfloss on your walls, but I am not interested. As 'realism' they lack reality (not to mention perspective), and as paintings of light they contain huge amounts of darkness. I would say that Turner is a far finer painter of light than Kinkade will ever be, whatever his trademark.

Everyone is an art critic....^_^ Especially artists...and seeing that you also paint...obviously you have an understanding of the time and money that goes into painting...

Your work is interesting....and somehow reminded me of the Intensive Art Program I was part of my senior year in High School...

There are lots of people who can paint (such a myself)...few that have talent...and fewer still that are truly gifted artists.

You can certainly paint...:)

Perhaps your work will take off...and end up in many homes...and perhaps one day someone somewhere will start a thread in an internet community to critique your work...and perhaps the comments will be a bit more kind than you've offered Kinkade...

...and if you become really successful...someone may even suggest selling paintings with the subject matter you've chosen is in some way exploiting Christians and is incompatible with evangelical Christianity.

Or maybe....just maybe...it might just be that someone else sees the heart and joy that went into your work...and appreciates it enough to display it in their home...:)

I don't really care for them myself. IMHO he's a better marketer than painter. :sorry: They make me think of 'happy little trees' (Bob Ross). The compositions, weak perspective, and color schemes are mostly the same in a vast majority of his paintings. It seems kind of redundant because there are soooo many similar ones. It seems to me values and contrast could often be better.

In a great deal of the paintings my eye doesn't fix on one focal point, but roves around. You can see the composition was designed to lead the eye but the use of color gets distracting. Maybe that' s intentional. (?) I find myself looking at the dead center middle in many of his paintings and generally it's recommended to not do that with your comp. In a few he has reds right on the edge of the canvas/print which actually leads your eye out of the picture. I actually had a art instructor say, 'next time you're thinking of dabbing that red paint on the edge of your canvas all by it's lonesome, put down your brush and smack yourself upside your head.':D

To me the paintings look more like storybook illustrations or holiday card art than something to hang on a wall. They're pretty but as far as 'Art' goes just ...meh. Everyone has different tastes and a painting, picture will speak to us all differently. Enough people like him so he must be doing something right.

I loved to watch Bob Ross...and for many people...it's not about great art...but simply..."The Joy of Painting"....:)

I loved his show too - not that he was a great artist, but he did make painting enjoyable and made folks feel like they too could paint

Yes...there was always something very soothing and inspiring watching him paint.

This thread is making me consider investing in some supplies...I haven't picked up a paint brush is over 20 years...I tried sketching a couple times...but got kinda frustrated...it seems whatever little bit of aptitude I had is gone...
