  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This was an unforced error...

Trump seems to think so. And most democrats think she is a great candidate. Both for the same reasons.

Unlike Trump?

Has been for years. Americans fired him for a reason.
I can use actual footage of Harris, not a comedian mocking her.
You could for Trump, using the parody seems unnecessary

Also...for those with Joe Biden length memories....

Amber Rose essentially got her black card pulled by Joy Reid because she announced herself as "racially diverse" and "biracial" instead of just black....

So when considering who or which group is racist...you have Donald who didn't even know Harris was black (because she promoted herself as Indian for years) and stated that it's fine if she's Indian or black since he has nothing against either groups...and Kamala "code switching" Harris who has been trying hard to present herself as black since she got the nomination.

You have Republicans who are against DEI because it's racially discriminatory and leads to lower standards to appeal to left-wing racial preferences. You have Democrats who have promoted DEI, CRT, and anything that spreads their non-scientific racial biases about white people, black people, and others so that everyone on the left is holding the same racial assumptions which become the justification for bad policies and laws. You have Republicans who accept anyone of any race in their group...since they believe race doesn't matter. You have Democrats, who hold segregated fundraisers with different rules for every race....like, God forbid you correct a black woman, just sit there and listen instead.

I can remember back when the political left embraced these ideas because they wrongly believed black people were being hunted down and executed by cops...but now that you're all aware that wasn't true....why continue clutching to all those racist beliefs and assumptions?

Markov chains are nothing new. I've played with them, producing pretty much the same stuff.
Are they using Markov chains? I thought it was some sort of generative LLM.

This goes to my thesis that generative AI is dumb and largely useless technology. At the "low levels" it was just generically vague and at the "high levels" it was generating incoherent nonsense and words. Trump is an rambler who makes strange speeches, but these are not those.

I would have agreed a year or two ago...but it's increasingly proficient at a rather alarming rate.

Donald Trump broadsided Kamala Harris in a string of derisive social media posts on Saturday, focusing his attacks on the vice president’s intellect after a week that saw her both out-fundraise him and surpass him in some battleground state polls.
In a succession of Truth Social posts after calling off his planned ABC debate with Harris, Trump called Harris “low IQ,” “dumb,” and said she lacked the “mental capacity” to debate him.

The former president’s remarks indicated a sustained ratcheting up of the rhetoric against Harris that many in his own party have cautioned against, fearful of detracting from what they view as more favorable lines of attack on immigration and inflation. Even as he accused Harris of enabling “corrupt and open borders” and a “terrible economy,” Trump overshadowed those critiques with personal insults, reminiscent of the rhetoric he used against Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign.

Trump’s latest spree of disparaging attacks against Harris began Friday evening, when he backed out of an originally planned ABC debate on Sept. 10.

Probably a wise move, backing out of the debate. She's a prosecutor, accomplished at cross-examining criminals. Supposedly, he'll be willing to debate her with Fox News controlling the debate, in a venue of his choosing. Level playing field would not be good for him, and he seems aware of that.

I think it is, but Markov chains work remarkable well. Remember Mark V. Shaney?

I'd include some examples, but Mark tended to be a little profane from time to time, depending on input of course.

Would you care to compromise w Trump?
Nancy Pelosi did. Worked out O.K. He isn't that good a negotiator, when he actually has to do what he agrees to do.

That's the point. The sort of word salad you get from AI or Markov chains isn't much different than Trump for real.

The National Review, the influential conservative magazine, has described Donald Trump as "too old" and on course to lose the 2024 election.

Writing in the National Review's Morning Jolt newsletter, senior political correspondent Jim Geraghty criticized the former president for his recent comments on Vice President Kamala Harris' ethnicity.

Geraghty, who also writes for The Washington Post, has now suggested that the comments will backfire on Trump in November, while also citing the Republican's age as an issue.
...
"The Republican nominee is too dumb, too old, too racially obsessed, too erratic and idiosyncratic in what interests and stirs him," Geraghty wrote.

"The polls just evened up, and he's on pace to fumble away a presidential race against a veep who ran a disastrous border—pardon me, 'migration'—policy, who's flip-flopping on every issue, who's got to defend the highest inflation in 40 years and chaos overseas.

"And Trump thinks his best move before an African-American audience is to doubt whether she's really Black."

MSN

Well, that explains that....I was wondering why you were quoting a National Review article
Just surprised that the editorial staff of a very conservative publication would be that blunt about Trump's cognitive issues. It was deeply embarrassing for him as he blathered racial complaints about Harris, to the point that his handlers stepped in and stopped the interview. He just kept on obsessing about Harris being black to the exclusion of anything of substance.

This is what it looks like when you can't run on record, achievements, or even a clear platform....
Yep.
Ask Trump about Harris' racial identity and pretend that he said something wild or racist or even unusual.
The strongest GOP criticism of Trump's comments about Harris came from former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who is running against a Black woman for a U.S. Senate seat. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Hogan called it "unacceptable and abhorrent" for people to "attack Vice President Harris or anyone's racial identity."

Former Trump White House director of strategic communications Alyssa Farah Griffin warned on X on Wednesday that his comments won't just hurt him with the Black community since "most Americans (but apparently not Trump!) understand the concept of being biracial and that to talk this way about anyone's race is offensive."

One in 10 Americans identify as multiracial, according to the 2020 U.S. census. The demographic has grown exponentially in the past decade, from 9 million people in 2010 to 33.8 million in 2020—a 276 percent increase.
...

However, several prominent Republicans had previously steered the party away from going after Harris' racial or gender identity, instead urging colleagues to focus on her policies.

North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis warned that Republicans are not "gaining ground" when they comment on "anything but this Biden administration's failed economy, failed border, failed national security."

Amen, I try not to see color either, and if I do, all people of the different skin colors are treated equally by me. :)
I see color but it just doesn't matter to me.

He's a WaPo writer...

The fact that the National Review would allow a left wing writer's opinion says a lot more for their credibility than most of the left wing media.

It was deeply embarrassing for him as he blathered racial complaints about Harris,

1. Deeply embarrassing? Lol they asked him a question and he gave the same answer many black people gave when asked the same question.

2. Deeply embarrassing is the Harris campaign reportedly had to pay homeless people to come to the rally in Atlanta. I saw a ton of empty seats....I saw people walking out of the rally....I saw about 60 people at her Pennsylvania rally. I'm starting to genuinely doubt the validity of these polls claiming she's a popular candidate at all.

3.

What's embarrassing about his answer again? This woman has claimed Indian until the moment she needed some black votes. Trump spoke no lies.

to the point that his handlers stepped in and stopped the interview.

You've mentioned this twice now...I watched the interview and don't recall it happening. I remember it getting cut short because it started 30 minutes late....but at the end he was speaking about immigration and EVs.

It's as if you never saw the interview and only read the MSNBC account of what happened. It's disappointing to watch the left become more and more misinformed.

Former Trump White House director of strategic communications Alyssa Farah Griffin warned on X on Wednesday that his comments won't just hurt him with the Black community since "most Americans (but apparently not Trump!) understand the concept of being biracial and that to talk this way about anyone's race is offensive."

The black community seems to agree with Trump.

North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis warned that Republicans are not "gaining ground" when they comment on "anything but this Biden administration's failed economy, failed border, failed national security."

I agree that those issues matter more to voters....but Trump doesn't control which questions he was asked.

In reality, he was told he would have a chance to debate Kamala in front of a black audience.....Kamala was too scared to show her face on even a Zoom call. When he showed up and she didn't....I think the black journalists association panicked and didn't want to do the interview, and hoped he would leave if they stalled long enough....that's why they were so hostile in the opening question. They hoped he would storm off stage.

By the end he was getting cheers from the crowd....no handlers took him off the stage...he stood his ground despite it being an obvious hit piece and he stayed calm the whole time. Remember, this man was shot at...he's not afraid of journalists with some hostile questions. He has more support from the black community than any Republican presidential nominee in the past 40 years...by a lot. He has more support than Harris did when she ran for the nomination in 2020. The last thing he should do is take advice from WaPo propagandists.

It was deeply embarrassing for him as he blathered racial complaints about Harris,

What's embarrassing about his answer again? This woman has claimed Indian until the moment she needed some black votes.
Except she went to a historically black university, belonged to a historically black sorority, headed an organization of black students... Try to keep this real.

Trump's racial blather was disturbing to the point that his handlers stepped in and stopped the interview.
You've mentioned this twice now...I watched the interview and don't recall it happening.
As Faulkner began her question, ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott, who also fielded questions to Trump, interrupted, saying that the panel needed to end at the direction of the Trump campaign.

It's as if you never saw the interview and only read the Trump campaign account of what happened.

Remember, this man was shot at...
When he had the opportunity to put himself in harm's way for his country, he suddenly developed a case of "bone spurs" which cleared up promptly after the draft ended. I respect those who knowingly put themselves in danger for their country. Trump thinks those men and women are losers and suckers.

He has more support from the black community than any Republican presidential nominee in the past 40 years...by a lot.
Right now, it's Harris 81%, Trump 18%.

Trump's slide in the polls following his rambling racial rant is from black voters and white voters alike.

I checked your link....it doesn't link the National Review.

He's a National Review writer.

He's a WaPo writer.

It was deeply embarrassing for him as he blathered racial complaints about Harris,

Here's one of the ways I know that you didn't watch the interview.

That statement landed with the audience. They're laughing because many black people feel the same way. It's not a crowd booing...it's not a crowd that's angry or upset.

You're sitting there calling it embarrassing lol.

Trump's racial blather was disturbing to the point that his handlers stepped in and stopped the interview.

As Faulkner began her question, ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott, who also fielded questions to Trump, interrupted, saying that the panel needed to end at the direction of the Trump campaign.

Again, this is the second reason why I know you didn't watch the interview.

It's only around 30 minutes. Go ahead and tell me what minute this supposedly happened.

It's not my fault you're misinformed.

Right now, it's Harris 81%, Trump 18%.

Trump's slide in the polls following his rambling racial rant is from black voters and white voters alike.

In 2016 he got 8% of the black vote....2% higher than Mitt Romney in 2012.

In 2008...poor McCain only got 1-3% of the black vote.

You're telling me that Trump is only getting about 18-20% of the black vote lol. You're clueless. Ty for proving my point for me.

And younger voters according to that source.

There appears to be a good bit of denial going on among Republican supporters, but every poll I have seen shows Trump lead vanishing.

Trump needs a new strategy.

I think many more black voters actually vote than in 2008, very likely because of Democratic Party registration drives and the highly visible change in the contest. First there was Barack Obama, and now Kamala Harris.

We now see that the President need not be an old white man.
