Like most of you guys, I often discuss Christianity with non-believers. In order to do that, I read authors like Richard Dawkins (or more intelligent atheists) to understand where they are coming from. What I encounter most often is sheer ignorance. Jesus rightly calls Satan a father of liars. Today I watched a video on comparisons between Jesus and an Egyptian god called Horus which was complete lies and without any sources, and yet people on a debate website I frequent took it at face value.
Dawkins, of course, tells the most atrocious lies in the book 'The God Delusion'. I read his chapter on the infallibility and I was literally refuting every line, and his claim (without any evidence or sources whatsoever) that Nazi Germany was a Christian regime was outright rubbish. I then watched a video this evening called 'The Nightmare Years' which completely debunked his nonsense (it was about a Western journalist who witnessed the arrests of Christian pastors in Nazi Germany.)
The thing is, people aren't interested in the truth. Dawkins and the like say what they want to hear, and they don't question what he says. The myth that Hitler was a Christian is becoming more and more common when it is a *lie.* This hurts me so much, because the truth is staring them in the face, but they live in ignorance.
What can we do in the face of this wall of enemy propaganda?
Interesting that you would bring this up. I just heard yesterday that in some of Martin Luther's writings (the one who brought protestantism and came out of Catholic church and who was German) it says that Jews are of the devil and that they should be treated as such. If he in fact did write that, then it makes sense that this brand of Christianity was what made Hitler's plans to come true and what would make Hitler to be a Christian according to Luther's writings. (If that was true. But I don't know if we can verify that or not.)
Afterall, Catholic church also was "Christian" and yet has killed many people through crusades. There have been many brands of "Christianity and Christians" over the ages.
When you think of people who are not Christians (or don't believe) look at this from THEIR perspective. It will help you not to feel that they are doing something bad. Because they simply do what they BELIEVE is the right thing. They live according to what they believe. And they cannot do otherwise.
Afterall, what do Christians expect the unbelievers to believe? Look at it. Christians say: there was this man, four thousands of years ago and he said such and such. Then there was this man 2000 years ago and he said such and such. And then there was another man about 2000 years ago and he said such and such.
And it's the TRUTH! When non-Christians would say: well, do you have any proof that it's the truth? Afterall, you did not personally see these men nor can you prove that they actually existed. You would say: no, I don't have any proof. BUT I just KNOW that it's the truth. The person would say: well, HOW do you know? You would say: well, I just believe that it's the truth.
Does believing something make something true? Of course not!
There are thousands of Muslims who believe that what Muhammed was said is true. There are thousands of some others who believe that what Buddah said was true.
So why do some believe Buddah over Jesus? Why do some NOT believe?
Well, according to the Bible verses (2Co 4:4 Acts13:48 John 6:64) it's God who chooses whose eyes to open to the truth and whose not to open. Because ALL are blinded otherwise.
So what can you expect from people whose eyes are blinded to the truth? Are they bad because they preach something THAT THEY BELIEVE IN, but that happens to be not true?
Imagine if you were an unbeliever. And three people came to your door. And one was a Christian and told you about God Jehovah and Jesus and Paul. And the other was a Muslim and told you about Allah and Muhammed. And the third one was Buddist and told you about inner enlightenment and reincarnation and such. Who would you believe and why would you believe one over the other?
So as you can see (I hope) that it's very hard for people to see the truth. They cannot do it. How can one do it without any proof? How can one do it without any supernatural intervention?
There are so many documents of ancient people. Who can know which of these are true? Which of these were fairy tales? Which of these actually have happened? HOW can we know? Afterall, even in our times it's hard to get at the truth. Some newspapers speak the truth and some speak lies. We can't even know if something is true while we are living during the things which are taking place. We know about corruption and lies and the covering up of the truth. So how can we know any truth about ancient times?
My answer is: we can't know. We are either left to chance or supernatural intervention.
