There's...not? The lines are different. No map on it. I don't see it.

you don't see the curved lines (they're faded, but still there) and then the laurel leaves.....sure looks like a UN insignia to me.

"They" probably just thought it looked neat. Anon isn't really a group or organization but more of an idea/meme.

why the UN insignia, specifically? seems like they might've used something more original.

I am thinking they are saying with their logo that they are Internationally Anonymous, which means they will attack anyone on the planet they are opposed to. Which, of course, can be dangerous. But as long as they are using their power for good I do not see a problem with what they do.

No, the UN is government. These guys are anarchists.

They don't have a solidifying ideology - challenging power doesn't automatically make them Anarchists.

yet they use what is clearly a UN insignia?

Two people have already said - it is most likely symbolism for the fact it is an international network.

although it isn't clear who or what is behind them....all we got is the symbols they use.....it surprised me to see the UN insignia for a group so "un-attached" to anyone or anything.

i didn't notice the UN insignia at first, then i looked closer, and yep, that's what it appears to be.

So does the UFP from Star Trek.

Anon also like to use the Guy Fawkes mask from V for Vendetta.

They do it for the lulz.

never noticed that on Star Trek.

they do this for laughs?

I disagree, to a point. If you look closely at the two logos you will see the orientation of the earth is different. Yes they are both using branches, but, without having spoken to anyone in that organization, I would have to guess they were going for a logo that had a traditional feel that invoked the feeling of being global.

I suspect they do a lot of their stuff because it's fun and empowering.

Why do you think they used the UN globe/olive leaf symbol? I suspect you're puting a lot more thought behind it than who ever came up with it.
