It appeared the thematic connection between the different books included in the reading for yesterday was that of a message being delivered, or at least it was the common denominator between John and Samuel. One message was of despair (for David who loved his son Absalom despite his seditious conspiracy), and the other from John the disciple to "the lady, the chosen one of God" can be considered one of hope.

Sorry to interrupt the thread but I was just thinking about verse 2 of 2 Samuel 23 "The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.". Can you imagine living under a king who's words were the very words of God? I mean we have this to some extent when reading Scripture but for some reason picturing David speaking the words of God to Israel makes me feel awe. How much more then would the disciples have felt blessed to sit at our Saviours feet and accompany Him when He was teaching?

Some day we're going to get to hear the voice of our Lord in our ears too
