Thinking of converting

Hey, one thing nice about Orthodoxy is that we are all aware of our sinfulness.

We are told not to judge and we have the Lenten Prayer of St. Ephraim to remind us about that.

Knowing what I know now, I too dont feel it is an issue. The more I learn the more secure I feel.

I went to my first Liturgy in early March of 2005. At that point I was a month or so away from being confirmed in the RCC. Driving to the parish that would later become my home, I was very nervous. I pulled into the parking lot and sat there for a minute. On my way there I noticed a catholic parish just up the block. I contemplated just attending mass there instead of going inside and attending Divine Liturgy. I don't know why, but I was really afraid of going in. But I did...

It could have been the devil who wanted to keep you out of the Church.

Sometimes, I have been afraid to go to confession, but I realized that fear was the devil tempting me too.

Oh that is sooo true. Especially with Forgiveness Sunday. What better way to prepare for Pascha (Orthodox Easter) than for the whole parish to ask each other from the bishops to the priests to the deacons and other clergy to the old babushki/yai-yai to the crazy convert to the smallest of children and all in between for forgiveness?



I first went to an Orthodox church when I was nine with my dad and at-the-time-future stepmom. I resisted it for seven years, but eventually realized that I was resisting my home like that Prodigal Son.

Yes, the priest would visit you. Shut-ins still receive communion they just get it at home.

There are some homebound Orthodox Christians who live not too far from the Priest. He is able to visit them regularly. In fact, he visits them almost every Sunday and serves them Holy Communion. There is a small service that the priest does when he brings Holy Communion into the home.

Just an update. Since I started this thread I have been to two Divine liturgy's and speak with the priest via e-mail frequently.

I am having a wonderfull experience so far.

I have been given a book to read called Introduction to The Orthodox Church: Its life and Faith. At the end of each chapter the priest ask that we go over a summery together. When I finish this book then I will proceed in joining the church.
