Thinking of converting

I was raised southern baptist and became very disenchanted with xtianity in general around the age of 18.

I have been atheist for the last 4 or five years and now I think Im getting my religion back. After doing some research I feel that eastern orthodox is the way for me.

However, I know nothing about how a liturgy is conducted, how communion is handled, or how to approach my soon-to-be priest with my many questions.

Any advice?

A good many of us on this forum are converts to Orthodoxy. There is a thread in St. Basil's sub-forum where we each discuss our own conversions to Orthodoxy. I point this out to you so that you know you will not stick out like a sore thumb. There have been a lot of converts to Orthodoxy and plenty enough that people do not treat inquirers with anything other than open arms. Most priests are very approachable and love to share their faith! Most of us are willing to ask any question you have so feel free.

I have walking pneumonia. I am sleeping about 12-14 hours a day right now. They have me on anti-biotics, and caught it pretty quickly, so I should get better. BUT, it is going to take a while to get my strength back.

Music, can you do me a favor? Next time you see Vladyka, can you ask him to keep my health in his prayers?

Just remembered this bored. So, my Christmation was last September and it has been smooth sailing since.

Had my first Greek Christmas, which was delicious.

I don't know why, but I was really afraid of going in. But I did...

Same here. And I still keep wondering what I was afraid of.

I have only been going for the last two weeks.. geez seems longer LOL, gone to three services, anyhow I pulled into the parking lot after going past what seemed like every other church you could think of and this was the last one on the whole street, I sat in my car scared to go in.. but I managed and enjoyed it. Now this week I am going to venture into the Greek church in our area. I still like to sit in the back and observe as much as I can, but I know some things that I can do and don't feel so out of it anymore.

Thank you. It is like someone has taken a vacuum cleaner to my energy levels. I am sleeping more than I am awake. My wife is amazed I made it to DL and Vespers last Sunday and the only way I made it to PSL on Weds was by sheer stubborness.

Gastonia NC. Ive actually decided on a particular parish, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte NC. It was were my local greek festival was held.

Actually, this festival was the first time I started thinking about god again. Needless to say I was to shy to ask about anything there.

I used to attend that parish

Fr. Michael (I think he's still the priest there) is wonderful !

Yes, he is! However, his son Fr Stathi was also there, but he had to leave b/c his brother-in-law was killed in Greece. So, Fr Stathi had to return to help take care for his widowed sister who is pregnant.

Terrible story, please keep him in your prayers.
