  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi Alison from a fellow Victorian and sister in Christ , I hope that you don't leave the forum.

Even though I understand why you feel like leaving it is allowing those few who do post to get one up on others, to drive you out and each one of us have something worthy to contribute.
I also have felt like you and by the posts you will see that you are not alone.

I think it is time for all of us on the forum to remember that this is a CHRISTIAN forum and we should be building each other up not trying to make anyone feel bad, good grief there is enough of that in the "world" we don't need it here.
From some of your posts I think you have an innocent enquiring mind, don't lose that it is lovely to see.
You will find some very nice people here and if I am not mistaken I think you can block certain people if need be. You will also in time find the people you have things in common with and may like to follow them.

I only joined this year, so I am new and still finding my way around.
Anyway I hope you do stay, regardless God bless you dear one[/QUOTE]

Shalom.
If you went to a meeting inside a building and
several or many people inside were breaking bottles and throwing them around through the air and everyone was liable to be hit at some time of another,
would you remain in the building ? (without a really really sturdy umbrella) ?
Finding true friendship and true fellowship anywhere online (and maybe anywhere in person? like in real life) is like that - frought with dangers known and unknown.

I've taken breaks before, but because I left the faith lol Then, I came back. But, sometimes stepping away for a few months gives you a new perspective. I don't participate in too many debate threads anymore, so that helps too.

I participate in threads that you would call debate. With me, I am just here to listen, sometimes learn, and to speak. I do not take it personally. Apparently you do and so that is probably not good for you. There are other places on this vast forum that I am sure you will enjoy. Maybe take a break from the forums you see as confrontational. Who knows, you may miss them after awhile

I've been away from the forums since last year, and coming back, I haven't seen a lot of fighting/debating, but just went into a thread, and there was some. It's sad to me when I see believers arguing over things in the Bible, or who is more right than the other. It's like, we should all be trying to uplift each other. It's fine to share knowledge, and gently correct others...but when you start becoming unkind ...what are you gaining, really? :mmh:

I couldn't agree more, the only thing you can do when you see that is leave that particular thread.
They must get something I guess but whatever it is it is not right, nor God pleasing.

It is so sad that this happens in a Christian forum but it also reminds us of how much we need God, imagine what He feels seeing this amongst His children.
It is a timely reminder of how much we ALL need Him even the "clever ones with all the answers ";)

Once you realize that any online interaction with folks is nothing but talking to faceless people who are probably sittin' nekkid in front of their computer wishing they were someone else..........it's much easier to disconnect.

Isn't there a natural tension in every Christian and non-Christian denomination? In Judaism there are Orthodox, Conservatives, and Reform sects. In Islam there are Shiites and Sunnis. In Christianity there are Unitarians, UCC, and Episcopals--and there are Baptists and Pentecostals.

The sad thing is that some people who share the same faith are very threatened by people who don't feel exactly as they do and believe exactly as they do. The tug of war commences between authoritarians and those who would like to see the authoritarians lighten up.

In any organization that is living and vital, we will always see new ideas and differences of opinion. I think that most people are respectful of discussion and debate, but some aren't.

I always liken it to a film I saw in the Gateway Arch (I lived in St. Louis a number of years). Riders to the top of the Arch will feel a sway, especially on windy days. This "give" was built into the construction because if it was too rigid it would collapse.

Rigidity is deadly. Rigidity is a precursor to collapse. If someone has ideas and opinions, thank them, don't squash them like bugs. They are insuring your beloved church's longevity.
