Has anyone ever ordered their personal banking checks from Life Checks? It's an online order service that offers some nice Christian checks, which I am finding hard to come by. It seems the bigger check providers no longer offer them.

Happy Birthday Porteross! I'm not fond of getting or giving roses, so here's some orchids instead:

Well, maybe not. Apparently, this forum won't let me post pictures for some reason. Sorry, I guess I'm not priviledged in that area.

Seajoy, somewhere it is written: 'Do not despair when the unrighteous prosper. For the Lord sends rain to the evil as well as the good. Take heart and rejoice for when the final judgement comes you will continue into paradise and the unrighteous, to eternal torment and suffering.' It's very small comfort, I know. Sometimes I have to tell myself this a lot. It's so difficult to see these people seemingly on top of the world. 'But when they fall, and they will, their ruination will be great.'

Ok I guess everyone knows by now my pastor is leaving. The church is young, maybe 6 to 7 yrs old. I've been there 2 yrs. Anyway there are 3 pastors I know of that can come and help out, 2 I personally know, 2 are retired, one attends a church in one city and the other still goes to the other which is the church I came from. The other pastor is in his 40's, doesn't have a church, long story on his situation, goes to the same church I came from. Well anyway there's a few of us that have a women's bible study going on and its on friday mornings. After the pastor left this morning this lady said if any of these pastors came to help, she'd leave, same one that said about 2 weeks ago that she didn't want them coming because she didn't like them. I didn't know what to say but that you had to think that it would only be temporary, like it wouldn't be forever. She's tried to get everyone agree in a round about way just let the congregation take care of the service instead of letting someone come help. The 2 pastors I know, they are good people, nothing wrong with them. I don't know if I should say anything if something like this comes up again or just keep my mouth shut. The whole situation, I just don't know what to do. I need to do a lot of praying and wish I had someone to talk to.

speak your mind ctay!! -- if she is going to leave because there is a temporary pastor, she may need to rethink where her priorities and faith truly lie (i may be way off base, but her outward signs are not telling of someone who cares about their faith as much as others may)

I would say it's good to say something...just don't expect to get a good reaction...sorry.

If these pastors are preaching and teaching Scripture correctly, administering the Sacraments, visiting the sick, and not living in some sort of sin (you know what I mean)...then what's the deal! They are willing to help, but she doesn't want any help. Wow!

She just doesn't like them?...tough! That type of thinking breeds unrest in a church, and that's the last thing your church needs now. Teaching Christ, and Him crucified is what all congregations need, large or small.

This is a tender spot with me, as I went through something like this in a church a year ago. (we no longer belong there). Some folks just like to run the show...it's like a disease...and it can infect an entire congregation. It's my way, or no way! Arghhhh.

Sorry...off my soapbox :sorry:

PM me if you would like to talk more on this...I had best stop now. :)

Ctay, there are a lot of... counterfiet christians in this world. Many, if not most, are very active in every congregation they attach themselves to. Often these people run for office, and since the larger body doesn't want to be bothered, these people succeed in getting elected. I've watched this kind of individual use guilt, slander, threats, whatever it takes to get their way. They appear to be 'managing' things to the benefit of the congregation. The reality is that they are working for their own benefit. I'm not saying they're fleecing the flock. Not directly anyway. Often, what they do is to brutally dominate a congregation to such a degree that no one dares to defy them in any way. Not even the Pastor. Hence, these congregations will go through an inordiante number of pastors in short order. This woman you are describing sounds like a counterfiet Christian. Good luck, sounds like you are going to need it. This woman, and her counterparts throughout the Church, do more damage than any other force at work to destroy Christianity. They may not have succeeded, but they do wreak havoc.:sigh:

My actual choice was Dendrobiums. There are two I had in mind. GoldSchmidtianum produces dense florets off a main stem that are scented. They remind me of a cross between Jasmine and Cinnamon. Sulcatum is yellow with red centres. They bloom in small spikes that clump along a main stem. They don't bloom as profusely as Schmid. but they make up for it in size. Both plants are plain, though attractive. Like all Dendrobiums they love moisture, and a warm greenhouse. There is a third, (to which I sadly don't know the name), which my Mum used to grow. It had an velvety intense purple flower and was lightly scented. One of my favourites. Sadly, I lived ,and continue to live, without a greenhouse and can't grow them. Coastal Orange and San Diego Counties are the only place I know of where one can grow Dendrobiums without a green house. Well, aside from Florida and Hawii.;)

Well, looks like I can at least post the links. Silly this... Better than nothing I guess...:sigh:

I do hope you had a happy birthday, Porteross.

we had probalems about 10 years back -- a small group (relatively speaking, i think there were 15 or so at most) did not like the Pastor, for no real reason, or his wife because the one woman was a co-director with the Pastor's wife with our preschool and did not agree with her teaching methods (the Pastor's wife had structure, routine & rules for kids going into kindergarten the following year? crazy idea, i know!) -- so these people ended up with a list of 57 complaints against: the Pastor, the preschool board, the Pastor's wife, and whoever they could find some petty thing to list about...

it went to our district president & everything -- they were voted out of fellowship -- our Pastor is still there (and a wonderful Pastor at that!!) -- although those who were voted out could rejoin another WELS church if they repented (publicly for our church) most did not repent to us yet are members of other churches now (one said "we will never join another lutheran church" yet are members of a WELS church in indiana) -- one of the signers had the gall to try and run for church president when this was going on when he never came to church and beat his wife (we all knew) and the day of the election her brought his grandchild (first time) and paraded around like he was doing so much good for our church

ok, rant done, church people (like that!) can get on my last nerve, lol

This is a form of devisiveness and can ruin your congregation. This should be taken to the board of elders under the council of your Pastor. If your Pastor is unwilling to handle it then call in your district Pastor.. This woman is sinning against God and all those of your congregation. Matthew 18 is in order. Good luck :)
