Miniature goats- just as much trouble (if not more) as their full-sized counterparts! Let's just say the thought of owning them is much better than the actual experience- at least it was for me :D

Ctay, do you have to do anything special to upload your pics here? I tried and kept getting an error message in the uploading window (Internet Explorer cannot display this page) after it started to upload. I don't know if it's the size of the pics (MB) or my internet.

I resize them, most of them when I resize them end up under 60 KB which takes just a few seconds to upload. I use IE and have no problems uploading

Yes they are.

We were given a pregnant female. She had twin billies. The stank, they were hard to confine, and they liked to crawl up on stuff and defecate.

As the billies grew, they developed amorous intentions towards their mother.

Now being a farm boy from a way back, we decided that neutering was the answer. Having performed the surgery on thousands of pigs and hundreds of cattle, I figured that it would be no problem. I even consulted a Vet book regarding neutering goats. One was OK, the other bled out and died:sorry:. The children were heart-broken, and I felt like a heal.

I never want to see another goat as long as I live.

Ditto Ditto Ditto! Sorry to interject a selfish thought, but this is exactly why we are going outside of the country for our kids. Our laws favor the biological parents more than the best interests of the child.

Continuing to pray for everyone involved and everyone affected by this.

(bolding mine)

Amen and Amen. I'm praying, Ctay!!

And...the Alpaca...is it wrong that all I could think was "oooooh YARN!"

(on preview)

Xander just hopped up on the desk. He's FASCINATED by my water glass and he's learned to stick his paw in and lick it.

Well, tonight he got "brave"...he stuck his paw AND his head in the glass. Of course, it got stuck and he tried to take off...but couldn't because he couldn't work his front paw. So he just "ran out of steam" and fell over. (which is his "reply" for just about any confrontation...except when he's in a wrestling mood with his sissy, Willow.) I heard this tiny muted "mew" from inside the cup...and I couldn't stop laughing even as my heart melted!

Oh he is a joy AND a terror!

Yes, Mark, you are right about Goats being a problem sometimes. As to the Billys, they're just like Rams (male sheep for the rest of you), one castrates them with rubber-bands when they're just a few weeks old. No bleeding, no infection, no problems.

As to keeping goats, they require stout fencing. Matilda the Hun and her happy band of barbarians are always looking for ways into the inner sanctum of delights (the gardens and orchard). Last year they chewed up our cherry trees pretty badly. I actually bought an electric shocker for the fence that has yet to be installed. Still, Goats are invaluable for keeping the brush and weeds on this property under control. They wander freely on George's forty acres along with the neighbor's properties on all sides. With the closest neighbor's house being a mile away, this isn't a problem.

This was Matilda-the-Hun's reaction to the fence last year:

Someone we know raises horses and has raised goats, he said he made more off the goats than the horses

With all the ethnic groups here in Canada, Meat Goats and Dairy Goats are now common. Some of the Established dairy farms have sold their cattle and quota, and are now milking 100's of goats. There seems to be good money in it.

We also have a farm near by that milks about 300 cows, and 100 bison for a specialty cheese market. I have not seen the operation, but knowing bison, it does not sound easy.

ctay, I have been thinking about you. How is it going with your sister and the baby?

All I know is that my sister has the baby back. Well its in a safehouse, with my parents and my sister is living there, I didn't think they would let that happen, thought when they took kids away the parents had to stay away until they do all the stuff they were supposed to do.

Hurray to Zech and Stude for starting WELS classes! I am especially happy that Stude has finally been able to begin.

Ang, glad to see you made the move ok- welcome back!

As for me, I am starting work at my new location tomorrow. Home Sweet Home! My commute will be up the stairs once I get my equipement. Tomorrow, however, will be a trip to the kitchen! (Where my personal computer sits).

Poor hubby has a horrible cold. We are pretty sure it isn't swine flu, but it's the worst cold he has had since we've been married. I have a slight touch, but I'm mostly just exhausted from listening to him cough and sneeze all night.

Baltimore orioles are visiting us! (the birds, not the team!) I'm TRYING to get a pic- I can't get close enough to get a good one tho.

OH I almost forgot- my daughter informed me yesterday that she and her fiancee are getting married. SUNDAY!!! (Yes, on Mothers Day) WOO HOO!

Anything exciting go on around here while I was gone? I've really missed everyone a lot.

We missed you too! Glad to hear your move is done--now for you to get used to your new "normal".

Exciting news from my house? Tiger and Bear celebrated their 6th and 18th birthdays. Bear survived prom, starts his job at the YMCA tomorrow, and is keeping busy with track and baseball. He earned a few gold medals in various events (4 track meets in the last 9 days). Tiger's doing rookie soccer and t-ball season will start soon. Best of all, Hubby's doctor is changing his medicine and taking him off the drug that makes him feel like a zombie most of the time.:bow:. And my annual battle with the creeping charlie in my flower bed has started. So far, Weeds 16, Gardener 0.
