Nope, even our summer was cooler last summer. I really think that Al Gore forgot to included the frozen tundra of the northern states when he determined there was global warming. We all would have loved for him to visit us. He wouldn't have lasted a day here.

Can you imagine what the heating and electrical bill for his mansions must be?

We are trying to adjust out T-stat lower and lower. We keep it at 60 or less most of the time, except once in a while my wife will sneak it up to 62. I'm also using almost all compact flouresent bulbs now, they really aren't too bad at all. I put one 14 watt and one 24 watt bulb in my bedroom and its brighter then its ever been. We also use a 14 watt halogen bulb for the backyard door. It takes a while for it to warm up in this cold, but its nice to be able to leave it on and have light to find the back door when you're going away.

I don't know if I'm going to miss forced air heat. The house and our flat have radiators in each room. Surely that will be easier on the skin and nasal passages. I wonder if it's a more energy efficient system?

Yes, hot water heat is very much more effeciant then forced air, but you will have to give up standing over a register to warm up, unless you have the old large cast iron radiators. We used to have those in our church but we replaced them with the new ones about 30 some years ago. Almost all institutions and hospital etc use hot water heat. Its really much better for your health because of no dust.

60 Isn't all that bad really, and its more healthy then having it 80 like we used to 40 years ago, not that I ever wanted it 80 but my bride didn't have any blood flowing thru her veins

I can't take hot weather very well, so you can have it especially if its humid which it always is in Michigan, never get one without the other here. It could stay 75 degrees year round would be fine by me

Our registers are in the ceiling here, Jim. Attics are the only place for ducts because homes are built on concrete slabs. It's hard to dig a basement in bedrock.

The radiators in the flat are not large and they're new, because it's a fairly new building. The have two sets of dials on them, but I've never been cold enough to need to mess with one when I was there. I'll bet I can tell you exactly how they operate in about 3 weeks, though. I've said the south of England was my least favorite region, but seeing how cold it's been oop north this winter, I'll not be complaining.

Do you have a humidity control unit in your central system, Jim?

Mike and I have been discussing GeoThermal heating and cooling when/if we build. I've also been doing some research on radiant heat through your floors. It would be nice to have if we go with all wood flooring like Mike wants. *G*

Our Thermostat is always set at 63 or lower. Sure it's chilly when it's below zero outside, but then cuddling is MUCH nicer than sweating. *G*

I could agree with that statement. However, I like to cuddle with my wife and son.

I grew up on a farm. In the 60's we had mild winters with a bit of snow, we could keep the driveway clear with a tractor and small blade. By the late 60's we had to buy a V-Blower for the tractor. By the early 70's we needed an 2-stage blower to cut through the drifts, they were talking a new ice-age coming.

Cycles are normal. We're back in the cold, with snow up to our ears for the second winter in a row.

A 100+ years of accurate weather records is not enough of a data base to establish trends by.

IMHO climate change is normal climate.
