As to thermostats, I grew up in Michigan, where my parents tried to keep the thermostat around 68 during the day, and 65 at night. Here in Maryland, with a Maryland-bred husband, I get complaints when it's 70. But I don't like it higher than 72 even on the coldest days.

That's what sweatshirts and socks are for.

Growing up with a wood furnace, our heat was regulated by how often we added another log on the fire - yep true. Thermostat was that fancy gadget that some of the newer vehicles had to help with the radiator. ;)

Unless you are like me - my feet sweat so bad, that even if it is 60° F my feet are very cold, ah, no, painfully cold.

No, sweatshirts and socks are what you wear outside when it's cold. I'll be damned if I have to dress for the outdoors just to sit in my livingroom.
Oh you would laugh if you saw my hubby- he sits in the living room with a stocking cap and gloves!

Aww, then you can't sit on them to get extra cozy! My former house had the old fashioned radiators and one ran along under the dining room windows and it would feel so nice to put a pillow on it and sit there in the winter time. The rest of the radiators were tall and narrow- probably about 9" wide, at the most, & 3 1/2 feet tall. We had one in the living room. My son, who was around 8 or 9 at the time, would build a 'nest' on top of this narrow radiator and perch up there to watch TV!

Poor guy! Turn up the heat for crying out loud!! :p
:D Oh, I have told him and told him if he's cold turn it up! But he's just as much a miser as I am, when it comes to heating the house. At least he goes back to work next week- maybe that exercise at work will get his blood pumping and warm him up!

Because of my fibromyalgia, I need the temp at 71 all the time. I don't like the bills, but it's better than the pain getting much worse. :)

I am with ya on this one.

Woke up to fog this morning which burned off and now a bright sun with the temp sitting at 27, suppose to reach about 35. Heat Wave!!

Temps are to drop back into the single digits over the weekend, but I am heading to my son's in southern Nebraska and it is suppose to be in the mid 20's there!

Ooh, you picked a bad place to live, huh. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live somewhere that was warm all the time, but then again- I would be far from my family and friends and would have to join a different church.... Guess I'll stay where I am!

We have our heat set at 68 degrees in the winter and the air conditioning set at 78 in the summer. I tried getting away with 66 degrees in the winter for the heat, but it was just too much, especially since I have a low body temp anyway.

My husband's a walking furnace and I just know we're going to butt heads over the radiator setting in our bedroom. I guess keeping him comfortable is a good idea, though, because when he gets hot, he throws the covers off both of us!!!
We're going to have to work into this sleeping together thing. It's not as easy as it looks. :D

Argh! I just got called arrogent in the OCD forum, in a neat little PM. I was also told that taking medication for OCD is an abomination. I used the one about Jesus using mud on a blind man in a post after that. Jesus did not need to use mud at all, but He did.

I'm just a little ticked, but I'll be fine. Is this something I need to work on? Even a baptist minister was on my team.

Ugh, I hate it when people seem to think they know best as well as are anti all medications. It is okay to be a bit ticked, but remember that they don't really know you and the decision is something that you make with your doctor's advice. You also know how it is working for you.

 that's all I can say right now about him/her.

Our registers are in the ceiling here, Jim. Attics are the only place for ducts because homes are built on concrete slabs. It's hard to dig a basement in bedrock. ;)

The radiators in the flat are not large and they're new, because it's a fairly new building. The have two sets of dials on them, but I've never been cold enough to need to mess with one when I was there. I'll bet I can tell you exactly how they operate in about 3 weeks, though. I've said the south of England was my least favorite region, but seeing how cold it's been oop north this winter, I'll not be complaining. :D

Wow, hot water heat in the ceiling? I guess I didn't know that was possible. Is there a fan or blower to get the heat down?

Do you have a humidity control unit in your central system, Jim?

Amm, we don't have central, at least not A/C, just an old fuel oil furnace. Our humidifier is just a little 8 gallon fan forced humidifer that sits in the hall way, but does a good job. I just have to remember to refill the tank about every other day, but works for me :)

It would be nice to have a furnace installed humidifier, maybe some day, but as long as the old furnace holds out I'll stick with it :)

I hope you can adjust to your new climate quickly. I know it will be quite a shock for you, but its really not all that bad. I love living in Michigan, even in the winter ;)
