  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Think I'll sit down here for a bit... (8)

We've had curried goat in Jamaica, and at a little Indian restaurant here. If it's slow simmered over time, it's tender and delicious. I don't know that it tastes like venison - can't really describe it. With venison, I prefer it in summer sausage, but I have this really good sounding venison chili in my Weight Watchers slow cooker cookbook that I want to try, so I'm hoping one of my friends gets something this season so I can snag some ground meat.

Fried Alligator tail is one of my favorite appetizers (Alligator bites at Sybergs - yum). It actually tastes like fish to me and I usually ask for lemon to squeeze over it. I want to go back to New Orleans and try that alligator sausage I had at one of the restaurants - wish I remembered the name of it.

I had braised rabbitt last month at our "restaurant of the month" and it tasted like braised pork - it was actually pretty good.

I love venison. MMM. There's nothing better than a good deer steak wrapped in bacon and tossed onto a grill. Unless it's slow cooked deer roast with onion, carrot and potato. Doe burgers are pretty yummy as well. Oh and deer meatloaf.

I told the Venison Fairy (my younger brother) that I sure hope he visits my freezer this year. He has 4 of 'em to fill.

I like pheasant and buffalo or duck. The duck cavity I fill with onions and it takes away the wild taste and is very tender, buffalo burgers I add chopped onion, egg a little flour, fry up and then smother with mushrooms, onions and cream of mushroom soup.

The venison Fairy??? LOL, Kae, you'd better not let your little brother catch you calling him that! LOL, oh, that's rich!:D:D:D

Well, in that vein, the Venison Fairys have decended enmasse on Trinity county. The roads are populated with pickup trucks carrying ATVs in the bed wherever one goes. The troops have arrived and I (LOL:D) feel sorry for the deer! Then again, this time of year, the deer move down into the subdivisions and towns. They know where it's safe!;):p

HEH. This is the guy who, when I hit my SECOND deer, took my driver's license and put it in a license pouch and stuck it on the back of my coat. Told me if I was gonna be hunting, I'd better be wearing my license.

And I did call him the VF to his face. He has "cop face" now (since he's a police officer) and tried REALLY HARD not to laugh at me. Didn't succeed.

I got hit by a deer once. It ran into the side of my car, hubby was more worried about if I killed it or not than if I was ok. Guess he figured I was ok since I was walking around and had no visible bruises or cuts, made me take him back to the area where it hit me to see if it was on the side of the rode. MEN. LOL

Being hit by a deer is one of the most scary things I've ever had happen to me. The first deer I hit actually hit me. (I like to tease my brother and say that Grandpa would be proud of me 'cause I got MY 6 pt buck FIRST. :))

The second one came out of nowhere and I didn't even have time to react. That one had to be hunted down (by the nice state trooper man) and shot. No one stopped to help me except for a very sweet older gay couple. One of the gentlemen went with the officer to locate the deer and the other one stood there and held my hand. When he heard the click of the gun, he put his hands over my ears so I didn't have to hear the shot. (I knew it was coming and, having hunted before, I didn't mind it...but it was a very sweet gesture.)

They stayed with me until my parents came and then left. The trooper looked at my car and said "the deer's yours" and left after taking the report. It dressed out at over 250 lbs. I have the antlers hanging over my desk. *G* It was another 6 pointer.

Any one want to bag their dear, come on up to Iowa where we have plenty around.

I bagged my dear almost 38 years ago. I doubt she'd be interested in me bagging another. ;):p

Now, if I still hunted deer, I could probably bag 2-3 every weekend up to Ames. :)

Oops! BIG typo there.

I had one (deer) that wouldn't get off of the road the other night. So here I am, slowly approaching it encouraging it to move. Finally, he did. I think we have gotten about 3 or 4 with our cars here. Too many near misses to keep track of.

Venison, rabbit, partridge, pheasant, buffalo, rattlesnake, frog legs,... I love them all!

See, now ya'll got me hungry!! :D

Me Too! I've had them all, but I think the most exotic thing I have eaten is lynx. My one uncle ran a trap line in Northern Alberta, and lynx were prized for their fur, and also their meat. It is mild, and very tender, kind of like slightly gamy chicken, but more moist.

I have eaten many other things not listed (squirrel, etc.).

However, the most exotic things I have eaten were in the Philippines. I never did ask what we were eating most of the time. I could keep it down better that way. ;) :D (actually most of it was very delicious!)

Although there was large bug in one of the bottles of Corona that made me sick. Whenever I would get sick in the ten years after, I could always taste that sickness from the Philippines. See, and I lived to tell about it!!

Kae, darling, it's bad sportsmanship to hunt deer with your car.;) Besides the expense involved. LOL:D, yes, your lil'bro is right. All kidding aside, in California, you're not allowed to take a deer, that's been hit by your car, home. I suppose it has to do with the tags system. They don't get their fee, you don't get fed.:p Though, I'm sure the Trinity County animal control officer would appreciate it if more people did.

Well, the fence is officially complete around the house. We now have a goat-free zone! Yay! Now, all I have to do is finish cleaning it out.:sigh:
