  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Think I'll sit down here for a bit... (6)

Thanks!

So...if you could please...pray that God gives him more years to be with his human Mommy? I can't take losing him right now.

Thanks everyone,

Kae

:( Poor Oscar. Prayers of course!! Our pets are a great part of our family as well and it hurts knowing that they won't be with us forever...or even as long as a human family member might be.

I feel a little strange asking this...but...Oscar is one of God's creatures too so...(and I'm going to ask that there be no inappropriate...or even if you think it might be appropriate...dead cat jokes or I hate cats comments. Please.)

My boy cat, Oscar is getting ready to turn 13 a couple of days after Easter. Late last week I noticed that he just wasn't himself. Knowing that he's getting older, I took him to the vet for a check up. Vet said there's something wrong but his symptoms are so slight (and he's so cranky) that they'd need blood tests to make sure. The three contenders for older cats are Thyroid disease (treatable and curable) Diabetes (treatable) and Kidney disease (neither treatable nor curable but palative care can be done to help extend life and keep him comfortable)

Vet just called with the test results of his blood work. He has chronic kidney disease which means it's been going on for a while and he could either continue like this for years OR he could go downhill VERY fast no matter what we do for him.

This is my baby. I've had him since before he was born. (his mommy cat lives at my parent's place) I watched him be born, I've done everything in my power to keep him healthy and happy (and rather spoiled.)

So...if you could please...pray that God gives him more years to be with his human Mommy? I can't take losing him right now.

Thanks everyone,

Kae
Prayers for Oscar! We have a kitty too...

I think God knew exactly what He was doing when he blessed us with pets. I lost my dog Sheba 2 years ago and I still miss her, even though now thanks to my daughter I have a new black lab about 2 years old.

I don't even know if cats would drink cranberry juice but I think its good for kidneys? Might help.

Have a great trip, Seajoy! Thanks for the Oscar wishes!

I'm going tonight for the "giving an injection" lesson. The fiancé isn't too keen on it. He said he might faint. *sigh* it'll be okay though.

How is everyone else doing?

He won't faint. Subcutaneous injections aren't difficult once you get used to giving them and there is little blood loss if any. We used to always buy our pet vaccine kits at the co-op to save money and cats don't squeal like dogs do. The biggest issue is sticking yourself. :p

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to have much trouble. I had to give myself injections for a bit for my Factor V Leiden.

Mike is another case though. *G* He used to be a phlebotomist so he's used to sticking people. However, when I was in the ER for something or another (don't really remember) I was sitting there joking with the student nurse who was digging around in my hand for my (rather prominent) vein. Mike went down like a sack o' bricks. LOL

He said it wasn't the fact that I was getting stuck. It was the fact that *I* was getting stuck. If you catch what I'm saying.

Oscar is a grumpy old man for the most part. He'll be all grumpy with me and I may have to towel him but, I think we'll get through this.

Thanks Porter!

I'm back from the Vet's. Mike didn't faint but he did turn a very interesting shade of gray and then had to leave the room.

Oscar did VERY well. He's totally unimpressed with me though. I think I did pretty well...thanks to Porter's assurance that the cat wouldn't squeal. *G* Thanks again!

Jim, I asked about the cranberries and the vet tech said that it was an interesting idea and that there are supplements that he can (and most likely will be) take but that usually cranberries are reserved for bladder infections. But she said it was a good question. So thanks!

Thanks to everyone for your prayers for him and for me. I totally appreciate all the well wishes.

Love ya all!

Well, I have returned from wandering around the world. Enjoyed the summer time temps and returned to where there is still snow on the ground, although much less. Yep, even got a little sunburned although that will fade fast.

Now to convince myself that I am in the CDT time zone and am not in the China time zone or whatever they call it, I will be good. Seeing the niece in Taiwan was great. She serves as an LCMS missionary teaching English and Religion there.

Looks like there have been good times here on the forum. I think I have gotten caught up here.

I learned how to brew green tea while there and brought some back with me. Got good at eating with chopsticks, the first meal served on the plane, I was looking for my sticks, oops now is the time for forks!

Well, it is time for me to try to get back to bed. See you all later.
